The saying "it's better to be safe than sorry" rings truer that most things I've heard in my life. There has been an endless amount of times I've had a spare tire, cell phone, jacket or a $20 bill in a spare compartment in my wallet get me out of a jam. I've always been a firm believer in keeping a bit of a safety policy the trunk or bed of your vehicle. Here are 5 things every man should keep in his automobile. Disclaimer: I left out spare tire, motor oil, cigarette lighters and the like because you should already have that with your automobile.
I, myself, own 2 SureFire flashlights...one always stays in my glove compartment. I've used this several times for every reason imaginable from being broken down to power outages. It is a wise investment and a must for your car or truck. Even if you only use it once, it is still worth it.
Firearm
It's a crazy world out there, and some precautions need to be taken. I'm an advocate of our gun laws here in America because it is our right to protect ourselves and our family. People looking to rob or do harm aren't going to be sensitive to using a gun, neither should you. If you are keeping a firearm in your automobile, make sure to go through the proper legal steps and gun control classes.
Hooded sweatshirt
Another common sense item that has saved me. Here in Pennsylvania, the weather can drop from 70 degrees to 50 and windy in a matter of hours. It is always good to have some layers handy for yourself or anyone else in your car in case of your car breaking down as well...it's no fun when the heat doesn't work in the middle of winter.
Cell phone charger
If you've ever had your cell phone die somewhere on the road and your charger is home, chances are you've already went out and got yourself a car charger. For under $20, this is a no brainer. Easy, cheap and very necessary.
Lawn chair
A personal recommendation to everyone, especially people with trucks or SUVs. This is more of a comfort measure than a safety measure. You never know when you're going to need it: baseball game, cookout, party. Most chairs come in very small packages anymore and can fit comfortably in any auto.
