Discover The Secret To Effortless Behavior Change
Author: Michael Norman
I recently came across this e-book and was instantly attracted to it. I was so fascinated by the idea of instant change, and I thought if this was true, this would be one of the most priceless programs I could ever get my hands on.Michael is just flat-out one of the best personal turn-around experts on the planet -- and he has a deep well of proven tools that anyone can use to almost instantly gain total command of their emotions, health, relationships, and entire life... without the need for willpower.
The Driving Force Behind Every Thought, Behavior And Action In Your Life
The behaviors we engage in on a regular basis controls our destiny.
When we identify behaviors that are holding us back or preventing us from living our lives fully, we attempt to change those behaviors.
We take courses, read books, etc. to help us but permanent change seems out of reach.
The 'secret', it turns out, is simple. We must start with our emotions. Our emotional states are the greatest leverage points for behavioral change.
According to Michael, "Willpower is needed only if you are trying to behave in a way that runs counter to the emotional state you're in."
That's because attempting to think or behave in a way that runs counter to the emotional state you're in is extremely difficult, no matter how much willpower you have.
On the other hand, if you're feeling confident it is naturally easy to behave in a confident manner.
The problem is we have never been taught to control and use our emotions for our own benefit.
Two dangerous misconceptions about emotions now need to be cleared up - misconceptions that can damage, hurt and keep anyone 'stuck' for years.
If You're Stuck in Any Way in Your Life, Here's the Reason Why
Michael says that there is a belief that seems to be sweeping the globe that our emotions just "happen" to us. He calls this a destructive notion. He feels we are being hypnotized en-mass--by the media and so called 'experts'- to believe we have less control over our minds and emotions than we actually do. He goes on to say that he thinks it explains a lot of what's going on in our society.
The other big misconception seems to be people who believe that their emotions are the result of a chemical imbalance. It's in their genes to be that way.
If we are going to be committed to actually be in control of our lives we need to reject notions that we are just passive organisms who are at the mercy of outside elements.
He continues, "Because the plain, perhaps politically incorrect truth is that we're not."
Why do so many people seemingly have very little choice about how they feel? Because we've never been taught to direct our minds and emotions in a way that awakens and harnesses the abilities we all have. It seems our brains are designed in such a way that if we don't direct our brain it will direct itself.
One thing we must come to grips with when seeking to get greater command over our emotions is that logic will not serve us in this endeavor.
Most people can easily explain to someone else why they are stuck. So mentally they are aware of the behaviors that are holding them back. Some even know the psychological theory behind why they do what they do. Yet, they're still stuck.
So, we now know that knowledge, information and insight have very little to do with change. Obviously, logic is not the answer.
The question now becomes, how do we get command of our emotions?
Every Feeling You've Ever Had Has Come From You
Every emotion you have ever felt was created inside your nervous system. It's purely a biological and neurological 'cocktail' that you manufacture inside yourself.
When it seems to us that someone or something has 'made' us feel a certain way, it's really a result of that person or thing eliciting an automatic pathway in our nervous system to create those feelings.
You can, by choosing to do so, feel any emotion at any time if you learn how...
What that also means is that if you change the 'triggers' that lead to an automatic pathway to an emotion inside you, then you can make those external events cause you to feel entirely different.
Michael here cites a case study where he was given a challenging patient who was so depressed she was under 24 hr suicide watch. She expressed to him she couldn't remember a time when she felt happy. After some prodding, she remembered an experience but, she explained, because of her chemical imbalance she could never feel that feeling again.
He asked her to do one more important thing. Remember one other time when she felt happy. He helped her get back some details and within 10-15 seconds she had had her second experience that was filled with happiness.
His point here is that no matter who we are or how we're feeling at the moment, we can access the feelings that would be more resourceful at the time.
We just need to be taught how.
Michael then points out that with all of the misinformation and lack of accurate thinking in the self help area, leading people to set unrealistic goals for themselves and setting the stage for discouragement and disappointment.
One critical distinction can help us gain a more accurate and powerful mindset so we can become the person we wanted to be and live the life of our dreams.
The Critical Difference Between "State" Change and "Stage" Change
Some changes can be made quickly, almost instantly. Some changes cannot be made quickly.
The difference is between 'state' changes and 'stage' changes.
"States, are emotions and are fairly simple (yet can be extremely important) thinking and behavioral patterns."
"Stages, on the other hand, refer to changes in much more complex thinking and behavioral skills."
"State" Changes CAN Happen Almost Instantly.
"Stage" Changes CAN'T-They Take Long-Term, Consistent Focus. This is according to American Philosopher Ken Wilbur.
If you have an anger problem, for example, you can change that in minutes even if you've struggled with it for decades of your life since it's a state change.
An example of a stage change would be learning to negotiate like Donald Trump does. This would require consistent effort and focus.
But here's something else important to consider:
Mastering the ability to make "state changes" is a prerequisite if you dream of making longer-term "stage changes."
A Simple Technique You Can Use Now to Wipe Out the Fears That Have Been Holding You Back, Within Minutes
To demonstrate his ability to help people overcome their negative emotions and behaviors , Michael gives us a 'freebie'.
Since it is usually fear which is what holds people back in their lives, this would be as good a challenge as any.
For one example, you may be in fear of quitting your job and starting a business.
Whatever fears people have, they have mastered the ability to connect the emotion of fear to almost any trigger.
We are born with this tendency and that is a good thing because it is part of our survival behavior.
The problem is we learn to fear things that are actually good for us. You probably have fears right now that you know are irrational. But as we learned earlier, logic has little bearing on how we behave.
So, how can we outgrow some of the fears that stand in our way?
Michael talks about a 9-letter word that so many people (network marketers) are afraid of. Rejection.
He then says, "Well, there's a quick little-known technique that I learned years ago from an old teacher, but very few people-psychologists, self-help experts, the general public, or otherwise-seem to know about it."
