Ford will be celebrating once again after their new Ford Focus was named as the Continental Irish Compact Family Car of the Year. It's the first model to receive four Euro NCAP Advanced Safety rewards for its innovative in-car features. Both its Driver Alert and Forward Alert Technologies came in for particular praise.

The Driver Alert system was designed to help keep drivers focussed during long journeys. For example, if you were to stray out of your lane on the motorway it would alert you so that you were able to instantly rectify the situation.

It's the second time in recent weeks that Ford have been celebrating their safety technology as their new Ford Ranger was recently awarded the maximum five star safety rating from Euro NCAP. You can now get hold of a brand new Ford Ranger in London and it was specifically rewarded for achieving the highest Euro NCAP score for pedestrian protection.

Ford will be extremely pleased that these two models have both been praised for their advanced safety features as they have been putting a lot of focus into this area.

They have recently revised their marketing strategy to focus on boosting their in-car technology, so these awards came at the perfect time.
The Euro NCAP Advanced Rewards were only introduced in 2010, but they set about rewarding the manufacturers who develop new safety technologies. There is currently only one other manufacturer who hold these rewards which shows that they are currently leading the way when it comes to producing new automotive safety measures.

Ford has been producing the Mondeo since 1994; it replaced the ageing Sierra model. The Mondeo was available as a hatchback, saloon and estate to replace the Sierra model like for like. At launch the Mondeo was the most modern looking car Ford had launched for a while and set the benchmark for future Ford models.

The Sierra and the Mondeo have always been family cars, large family cars that have plenty of space in the cabin and a decent size boot. Fleet and company drivers also became fans of the Mondeo due to its low running costs, fuel efficiency and driveability.

The latest version of the Ford Mondeo in London was launched in 2007 and is the fourth generation model. It is currently available with a choice of many petrol and diesel engine variants. The smallest petrol engine is a 1.6 litre with 110 PS, the most powerful petrol is the 2.0 litre EcoBoost with its 240 PS - there is a 2.5 litre model but that has 220 PS.

The diesel range is the most popular and starts off with a 1.6 litre with 115 PS, there is a 1.8 litre with 100 or 125 ps. The 2.0 litre diesel has 4 power options starting from a 115 PS model and going up to 160 PS. The larger 2.2 litre diesel is available with either 175 or 200 PS. My personal choice would be the 2.2 litre with 200 PS; it has ample power whilst being fuel efficient.

The fifth generation model has made its first appearance at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. The next generation takes a lot of its design cues from the Ford Evos concept that was unveiled last year. The new Mondeo is set on a global platform that is shared with the now identical Fusion, which will be sold in the U.S.

I recently bought a Renault Clio In Burgess Hill and I thought I would share my findings of the car. From the outside you might just think that this car is a normal Renault Clio but there are some small hints that this is not the case. Energy efficient tyres, wheel trims and a specially designed spoiler means that this is the new Renault Clio.

Under the bonnet is a 1.5 Diesel Turbo which produces a lot of horse power. It will get the Renault Clio from 0-60 in 11 seconds. This Renault Clio is very fun to drive and the engine had very good power delivery. This means that if you are confronted with slow moving traffic you will be able to overtake very easily, which is something that is necessary in Burgess Hill, where elderly drivers are common. The Renault Clio is a very small car and the steering is incredibly sharp when you go round the corners. This is great for awkward parking in those tight spaces around Burgess Hill. This particular model also has very good suspension and very comfortable seats. The interior of the Renault Clio is very up-market and feels like a car that costs far more than this vehicle does. There are a lot of handy compartments for all of your things and plenty of space in the back seats for your kids and all of their stuff.

I began looking for a Renault Megane in a car magazine, at work. During my breaks I would often scour the magazines in the hope of finding a cheap Renault Megane, in good condition. Eventually I moved onto looking at car trade websites and this is when my luck changed for the better.

At first I was unsure whether such an amazing deal could be true but after contacting the seller and talking to him about the Renault Megane that he was selling, I felt confident that it was a genuine listing. The next day my friend drove me to the seller's house in Brighton to view the Renault Megane. I did not know a lot about cars and had no idea what to look for. Luckily though my friend was very knowledgeable and he immediately began looking over the vehicle when we arrived, while I talked to the seller. It turned out that the Renault Megane had hardly been used since new and was owned by his mother-in-law. This explained why the car had hardly been driven but it did not explain why the asking price was so low. He then told me that he wanted a quick sale as they were moving home and could not afford to take the vehicle with them to sell in their new town. This made a lot of sense and after speaking to my friend I made him an offer on the Renault Megane. I am now driving the car around Brighton.

I recently bought a Renault Twingo In Kent and I thought I would share my opinions of the vehicle so far. If you are looking for a small, economic car that is cheap to run and very practical then look no further than the new Renault Twingo. There is a lot boot space and the rear passenger seats are very adjustable. The outside is very stylish with tinted windows and front fog lights as standard. Inside it feels fresh and funky with a cd player and a range of inputs. There are driver and passenger air bags and traction control. There is also air conditioning included. The 1.2l engine powers the Renault Twingo very effortlessly around the roads of Kent. It is also very cheap to run with the engine achieving 70mpg. This is very handy for me as I often cover a lot of miles around Kent getting to work and back.

I decided to buy the Renault Twingo after I broke down in my old car while I was driving to work across Kent. It had already happened a couple of times and I had been assured that it would not happen again by the mechanic who had fixed it. I had been stupid enough to believe him and now I was paying the price. I would highly recommend buying a Renault Twingo if you are looking for a cheap, small, reliable and well built vehicle. I could not imagine driving any other car around Kent now that I am used to driving the Renault Twingo. This vehicle is well worth the money.

SUV's are increasingly becoming one of the most popular types of car to buy these days. They offer the space and practicality of an MPV, but with looks more akin to a hatchback. They are not big cumbersome off-roaders, although most do feature four wheel drive to improve performance in difficult conditions. An excellent all rounder then!

Until now Vauxhall has not had its own SUV in the range. But it has released images of its new offering, called the Mokka, that will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and then released later this year. The Mokka looks like a larger Vauxhall Corsa, and is in fact only slightly larger than the hatchback.

The Mokka is a sturdy looking car, compact yet spacious with a generous boot capacity of 1,372 litres and a Flex-Fix bike rack that can hold up to three bicycles, yet is fully integrated into the car's underbelly.

Buyers of the Mokka will have the option of front wheel drive or four wheel drive and can choose between two petrol engines; a 1.6 unit with 113bhp and a 1.4 litre turbocharged unit with 138bhp, or a 1.7 litre turbodiesel with 128bhp. The last two are both available with six speed manual or automatic transmission.

The Mokka will feature some advanced technologies as standard including an electronic stability programme, traction control, hill start assist and hill descent control. Options include front and rear view cameras, collision alerts, a traffic sign recognition system and a lane departure warning system.

I run a successful car garage in Scotland specialising in Volvo Servicing. I started the business about 20 years ago from the back garden of my house.
