Beautiful St. Louis Attraction

The Rocket Moms challenge for week 6 in the fall of 2011 was to talk about a dream vacation or perhaps a staycation. I have traveled to many parts of North America to view the changing colors in fall, but this year as I've been looking around my hometown area I am finding some of the most beautiful colors of all. In light of this I am suggesting a vacation right here in beautiful St. Louis.

This lens will highlight one of my favorite St. Louis attractions, The Missouri Botanical Garden. Missouri Botanical Garden is a wonderful place to visit all year round, but I find it especially beautiful in the autumn. My favorite places to stroll in the autumn are the Japanese and the Chinese gardens. These two areas have a wonderful array of stunning colors that are enhanced by the water features in the area.

You will also find links here to my other St. Louis area pages so you can discover even more about spending a fall vacation in St. Louis.

Missouri Botanical Garden

beauty for over 150 years

Missouri Botanical Garden was the dream of Henry Shaw. He came to the St. Louis area from Sheffield, England. Henry Shaw was a botanist and philanthropist who founded the garden in 1859. Today the garden has 79 acres of plants and flowers and along with being a wonderful place to visit, it is a center for botanical research and education.

The reflecting pools shown here are laid out in the center of the park. They are beautiful in fall with the beautiful yellow and gold reflections from the trees.

Taking a Stroll at the Japanese Garden

The Japanese Garden was added in 1977. It has 14 acres of lawns and paths set around a 4 acre lake. I always enjoy strolling in this area of the park. It seems to be ever changing as the plants and trees change with the seasons. I enjoy seeing the bridge from the lake to the island and also a beautiful waterfall near the one end of the garden. Here are some of the photos that I took in the Japanese Garden in October.

Chinese Garden in the Fall

Missouri Botanical Garden

The Chinese Garden is another of my favorite places to visit. It is called the Grigg Nanjing Chinese Garden and was added in 1995. It was designed by architect Yong Pan and many of the main features are gifts from our sister city in Nanjing, China. These major features include the moongate, lotus gate, pavilion and the Chinese Scholar Rocks. I was able to capture some beautiful fall leaves in my photos in October.

I live in Denver and we also have a botanical garden with a Japanese tea house. But 79 acres is very large! I will have to take in the St. Louis one sometime. Lovely photos!

My favorite place for Autumn is home in Southern California. Two leaves actually fell off the Mulberry tree today. This garden is going to be a must see for me. We were in Missouri this year and are already planning to go back next year. Thanks for the heads-up. Angel blessed.
