Ava The Elephant: A Parent's Review

Ranked #8,158 in Parenting & Kids, #284,426 overall

Welcome to my review of Ava the Elephant!

How many times have you tried to give your crying, sick baby liquid medication only to have the baby spit it all back out or refuse to open their mouth altogether? We've all been there. The trauma is as exhausting for the parent as for the child!

Now there's a remedy. Ava the elephant. Not only is she cute and suckable, but she talks too! No longer will you have to have 2 adults on hand to give one small child a dropper full of medicine. Simply fill the dispenser inside the elephant and Ava does the rest!

We watched this idea develop and pick up a major investor - Barbara Corcoran - via the ABC show 'Shark Tank'. Now, it's ready and on it's way to market.

The story behind Ava is as compelling as the product itself is GREAT!!

The Story

How Ava Came to Be

Tiffany - Ava's CreatorYears of working with children, including special needs and childhood cancer patients, struggling to get them to take their medicine, prompted Tiffany Krumins to devise something that would make the whole experience a little more successful.

She knew she needed something that would hide the fact that medicine was coming at all, and it needed to be something that was familiar to young children, something that looked like "play" not "medicine". She created a little clay elephant and invested around $2,000 to get the idea patented. ABC is casting for "Shark Tank"; Tiffany applies and is accepted.

The tv show's experience is a life-changer for Tiffany as she gets an offer from Barbara Corcoran, who will invest $50,000 in exchange for 55% of the back end. It's a tough offer, but as Tiffany so wisely surmises, with a force like Barbara Corcoran, this toy will be made. Made and Distributed. Distributed and sold all over the world.

Working on the prototype, Tiffany realized, "it was not necessarily children's dislike for medicine that made it so difficult. After all, they can make it taste like BUBBLEGUM these days! The process was the scary part."

Thus, the first goal was to hide the medicine dropper completely! Tiffany's second intention was to make the child smile or laugh, hence the sweet voice! Then, like all parents of her generation, she wanted the little "friend" to offer some positive reinforcement: the elephant says "Good Job" when the medicine is taken.

Throughout test, Ava has received hugely positive reactions from babies and young children! It's a hit!!

To see the pivotal moment when mentor, Barabara Corcoran offered to invest in the product's development, but for an "outrageous" 55% share (LOL), click Shark Tank There again, as we all know, 45% of something is waaaay better than 100% of nothing!

What a superb idea! My 1 year old has recently needed her first couple of doses of Calpol and she hated taking it, so this is definitely a must-have in our house!
