Avocado! Calories, recipes, and sustainable weightloss

Calories are on my mind when I look in the mirror. I see some curves I am not very pleased with: My boobs are a tad small, my hips could definitely do with some less.

I am sure I am not the only one looking with a critical eye to my own body.

I think actually that far too many men and women around the world focus so much on dieting and perfecting their external beauty, that they forget the beautiful people they are inside along the way.

Our culture is becoming obsessive about the perfect body and the perfect body image. It seems that almost everybody has been dieting, is dieting or is planning to start dieting soon.

There seems to be one universal truth when it comes to dieting though.

No one really enjoys the process though we all eagerly await and anticipate the results.

I will tell you more about my thoughts, the facts about avocado calories, and give you this delicious avocado recipe I found the other day.

But first: If you like this lens, please rate it with the stars at the top, favorite it at the right, and Digg it! For an explanation about Digg, have a look at Diggexplained. A little comment on this site will be very much appreciated, and of course I will return the favour!

When I am honest, I think that

Dieting actually should be more about health than beauty. We should not need to conform to some preconceived notion of beauty!

Imagine, that we would all look the same... The world would be a rather boring place to be.

I am now first going to give you the figures of avocado calories, and then further down I will give you a Yummie recipe I found. I have lots of Zucchini in my vegetable garden, and I love to make dishes with them. This one is low calorie too.

Dieting should also give us a good feeling: we become more and more fit and healthy by the day, and that does feel great!

When your starting point is healthy food, consider very seriously to start a (small) vegetable garden. I did, and I love to make delicious meals with my own organic veggies.

Facts about Avocado....

Calories in avocado; I asked my friend Susy

From a chat with my friend Susy, she is a nutritionist...:

[11:4:46] char says: :-)
[11:47:46] susy says: I know... I love avocados too
[11:47:46] char says: did you see that recipe I posted on my new Squidoo lens?
[11:47:46] susy says: no, not yet. Do you actually know how many calories an avocado has?
[11:47:46] char says: NO! I wanted to ask you.
[11:47:46] susy says: in a medium size avocado (145 gram/ 5 oz.) = 276 calories.
[11:47:46] charlotte kamman says: :*
[11:47:58] Susy says: fat (which is the healthy fat) = 27.6 gram ...

I got sidetracked, as my friend Mike just sent me this link!

I will share it with you, it might be true you know!

For the first time in my life, I am using Meal replacement Powder...

I lost 2 kg in the last week...

I only replace one meal per day with it, because I do not believe in fast weightloss. I try to walk a bit more, but that is hard to achieve (I guess I am pretty lazy actually..!)
I do take the CLA supplement from the same manufacturer, and for me it work fine.
I would love to see myself in my bikini without that belly, I really do.
I don't dare to post photo's "before" and "after", but I think I should - a photo in which I don't do a desperate exercise to keep my belly in :-)
Anyway, I invite you to check it out and see if you like it as much as I do.

Just click here and see if it is for you.

Some more thoughts...

The most important to me is

that I finally stop allowing the person I am to be defined by what the scales say about me. I am reaching for a point where I am happy with my appearance and feel that my personal fitness level is in hand. We do not need a nation of size 5 women! I'd rather meet people who are self-aware and self confident and not afraid to be who they are on the inside regardless of how they look on the outside.

And don't forget the fun I have in making great low-calorie meals, walking more and even running a bit every day, and experiencing my body getting in better shape!

Zucchini and Avocado Salad recipe ( for 4 servings)

Ingredients:

1 lb of zucchini.
1 garlic clove, minced.
1 large avocado.
2 ½ cups of water.
12 stuffed green olives.
4 sprigs of watercress, to garnish.
1 cup of orange juice or a mix of lemon/lime juice.
2 teaspoons of salt.
Lettuce leaves.
Pinch of dried tarragon.
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste.

Preparation Instructions:

Wash the zucchinis, then trim off the ends and cut into slices ½-inch thick.

Bring the water to the boil and add the zucchini slices and 1 teaspoon of the salt.

Cover and cook for 5 minutes.

Drain the zucchini and set aside in a bowl.

In a cup, mix together 1 teaspoon of salt, the minced garlic, dried tarragon, black pepper, and the lemon/lime juice to produce the dressing.

Pour the dressing over the zucchini and mix throughly. Allow to marinate in refrigerator overnight.

Peel the avocado, remove the stone, and cut into thin slices.

Drain the zucchinis and reserve the marinade.

Cut the stuffed olives in half.

Place each of the the lettuce leaves onto its own plate, then arrange the avocado slices, zucchinis and olives over.

Garnish each plate with a watercress sprig.

Use the reserved marinade as dressing.

Focus on being happy

You need to focus on being happy with who you are!

Then you will achieve the greatest dieting success you have ever dared dream.

Many of use eat out of emotional need or a simple need for comfort when we are depressed, hurting, uncertain, or simply in unfamiliar territory.

There is no solution that will work for everyone when it comes to making peace with who you are and this by no means indicates that you should no longer seek to be the healthiest you there is.

It simply means that your focus should be more on coming to terms with who you are as a person than in creating a new person or imagine behind which you can hide.

"Whatever you focus on, you'll get more of"

So, just make sure that you focus on what you want, and not on what you don't want!

Nice lens. I agree that there is too much emphasis on physical appearance these days. Lots of skinny, scowling people!

Hi Charkamman, you got it right - avocados are OK to eat during a weight loss - just not a lot. They are so healthy, you should eat avocado at least once every week.
