Awana Clubs are Fun for all kids

Awana is a non-denominational Christian program for kids ages 2 to 18. In Awana, kids memorize Bible verses and passages and earn awards. They also participate in a game time and a teaching time weekly. Awana helps churches work with parents to develop strong followers of Jesus Christ. Awana stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed," which is taken from Second Timothy 2:15. There are more than 12,000 Awana programs in the United States and more than 8,000 programs internationally. Awana has been making an impact on kids' lives for Jesus for over 60 years. Each week more than 1 million kids participate in an Awana program. Awana is divided into age groups: Puggles (for 2's and 3's), Cubbies (for preschool 3's and 4's), Sparks (for kindergarten, first and second grades), Truth and Training (for third, fourth, fifth, and sixth grades), Trek (for seventh and eighth grades), Journey (for high schoolers). They also have a prison ministry for children of inmates called Awana Lifeline.

"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
2 Timothy 2:15 (New King James Version)

Puggles

For the littlest lambs 2's and young 3's

Awana Puggles is a newer program for pre-Cubbie kids (older 2's and young 3's). The Puggles program is based on two key biblical concepts: "We are a unique creation of God" and "God loves us very much." Our church has not yet had a Puggles program since it is so new.

Cubbies

Teach them young!

The Awana preschool program is called Cubbies. All of my children started as Awana Cubbies. My husband has been a Cubbie leader for the past 8 years. Cubbies is a two year program based on the following premises: "Young children can and should receive spiritual training" and "Home is the primary place for spiritual training." Cubbies programs include puppets, book time, games, snacks and play. There are 2 handbooks (one for each year) that are written in a charming, storybook style with characters that appeal to preschoolers. Cubbies learn one verse a week and earn patches to put on their Cubbie vests. Memory verses are presented at a level appropriate for preschoolers. For example they learn an abbreviated version of John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son." My current Cubbie is my daughter Maebrey, age 4. The Cubbies motto is "Jesus loves me" and the key verse is First John 4:10, "God loved us and sent his son."

Sparks

Moving up!

Sparks is a 3 year program for kindergarten, first and second graders. Sparks builds on the material presented in the Cubbies program. In 3 years each child will learn over 65 verses. There is an increased emphasis on Scripture memory. The verses get longer and the gospel is presented on a regular basis in the handbook and club time. Sparks participate in organized game time. My current Spark is my first grade son Kellen. The Sparks motto is "My friend for Christ" and the key verse is John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."

Truth and Training

The Ultimate Adventure

Truth and Training is the club for third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders. T&T Clubbers work through four handbooks and memorize additional scripture as they learn life's ultimate adventure is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Handbooks include scripture memory and projects such as drawing and writing to a missionary. Clubbers can also earn gold and silver extra credit awards. By the time a child is in Truth and Training he or she will have learned and reviewed approximately 310 verses, studied Old and New Testament passages, and learned about evangelism and discipleship. I currently have two kids in Truth and Training, my third grade son Braeden and my sixth grade daughter Anna.

My son went through 2 years of Cubbies and now is in Sparks. It is a great program and he really likes it. I got to be a helper in Cubbies for 2 years and enjoyed it. It is a wonderful way to learn Bible verses, teamwork and to make new friends.
