Thanks for a great lens! I'm always on the lookout for good new books for my 8-year-old daughter, and you've got some great suggestions here! I think our personal favorite book for years has been The Magic Nesting Doll by Jacqueline K. Ogburn and stunningly illustrated by Laurel Long. It's a magical story of a girl in Russia who saves a prince with the aid of a magic nesting doll. Good stuff!

  • ChrissLJ Feb 19, 2012 @ 2:22 pm | delete
You can't go wrong with a Mo Willems book. I anxiously await the new Pigeon book that is due out in April. Willems should have won the Geisel award... who cares that he's either won it or been an honorable mention like four times already! However, I was disappointed that ABA chose Children Make Terrible Pets for the E.B. White. The book makes for a terrible read.
  • RawBill Feb 19, 2012 @ 2:12 pm | delete
It is hard to choose just one favourite, so I will choose a series instead. When I was growing up Enid Blyton books were extremely popular and one of her best series in my mind was the Famous Five series. They always had me eager for more adventure and could not wait to read the next one. Congrats on LOTD :-)

I love that "We Are in a Book" received an Honorable mention. (Though truthfully I think Mo Willems should win every year.) I think it is the only Gerald and Piggie book I haven't figured out how to act out for storytime.

Some great choices here. I love my Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys mysteries and still own both sets. Hopelessly outdated ... but they're still fun to re-read.

Great lens! These children's books are great; I'll read them to my kids when I settle down and start a family... Though by that time, new books will probably take their place...

From this lens my favourite kids books have always been the Madeleine books. I love the Madeleine series on TV as well. It's definitely about time Madeleine was inducted into a Books Hall of Fame.
