In The Beginning
I cut my first tree down for my Father when I got out of the service. The tree was a big white oak. I can't tell you how big it was because back then it seemed huge. Looking back now I would say it was around 75' tall and about 9' around at the base. My father had gotten a few estimates that went into the thousands. I had climbing experience that I learned in the service, a tall ladder and 150' of climbing rope so he didn't mind buying a good ground saw when the time came. Armed with an electric chainsaw I started on the tree. It took me 3 days to get the tree on the ground, but I loved every minute of it. That was 20 years ago and I hated to see that tree go but I love the career that it got me started in.
My beginning years in tree service were more difficult than they had to be because I learned from the school of hard knocks. I have cut myself, been smashed and have fallen form very high places. You really have to love this job , which I did and still do. Over the years I have learned the best way to cut down trees through both personal experience and professional training, thus ensuring my safety and the safety of all of my surroundings. The instructional videos below are done by a professional instructor that I actually took classes with.

Safety Above All Else
Tree climbing for a living keeps you in very good shape and I am happy to say that I have never felt better. Don't think that cutting down a tree or even pruning one doesn't use muscles in every part of your body. Many people who attempt this type of work remember muscles they forgot they had because they get really sore after the job is done if they even are able to finish the job at all. Tree removal and/or pruning can be quite strenuous. Be sure that you are up to the task before you begin. Many people find themselves in a really bad position less than half way through the job and end up having to call in a professional tree service to finish the job. This can end up costing more money because now the tree is unsafe.
Please make certain that you know what you are doing before you attempt to take down a tree or prune your trees. Accidents that are costly not only monetarily but physically can happen very quickly. An experienced tree service can evaluate the risk of unexpected events. The average person really and truly doesn't know what they are. For instance, the top (crown) of a tree acts like a kite with just a little bit of wind. It only takes a little wind to make a tree fall the wrong way even if the cuts are done properly.

Tree on A House
You must always have the top of the tree secured. These people did not know how to properly cut a notch in the bottom of the tree in order to have the tree fall in the right direction. Another prime example of - you don't know what you don't know. Thank God no one was hurt.
About Awesome Results Tree Service
I have worked for three residential tree care services before starting my own. Awesome Results Tree Service is where I am at now. It's been ten years in the making but worth it. Awesome Results Tree Service is all about getting the job done without any damage to the the property and in a timely manner. With the intensive knowledge of rope rigging we do little to no damage to the yard and landscaping. Communication in writing is a must, the bid proposal should state how many trees are coming down, where the trees are, what type of tree and does the brush stay or get hauled off. It should also include the date the job is to be started and finished and the amount in to be paid in cash or check. The tree service should be able to give you a list of references and proof of insurance at the time of the bidding. Awesome Results Tree Service does this all the time with every bid. Here at Awesome Results Tree Service we specialize in tree removal, hazardous take downs, cabling and pruning class 1 to 3. All the work is guaranteed. All employees are Amercans and are drug free.
Cutting Down a Tree The Proper Way
There are a few important things to know before you begin tree removal. The type of cutting in the video is usually done in the forestry industry where homes and structures are not in the area. I use this type of notching and back cutting, but I also use a rope to pull the weight of the tree over. This video makes it look so easy, but in reality is quite difficult. The plunge cut described in this video is a very good example. Never attempt a plunge cut with a chainsaw that does not have a chain break. A kickback could happen and severely cut an arm, a waist or your neck depending on how you are positioned when making the cut.
Good Dependable Chainsaws
I have found in my experience that these chainsaws are by far the best in the industry. They rev higher than any other chainsaw made. What this means in layman's terms is less time spent cutting. This makes them longer lasting than the other brands.
Ground Work
Cleaning Up The Debris
Believe it or not this is where many accidents occur. Trees can still be a danger once they are on the ground. Having a tree roll over on you or a branch coming back to hit you because of back pressure is a common accident. Learning the right way to cut with a saw and knowing what to look for is imperative! Please watch this instructional video to gain more insight on hidden dangers.
Tools of the Trade
These items will make your other tree care equipment last a lot longer. They will also keep you safer and make your job of on the ground cutting easier.
Personal Protective Equipment
The proper personal protective equipment is essential in tree removal. Horrible accidents can happen when clearing up the debris so you want to make very sure it does not happen to you. Why take the chance? Pain is not fun and a hospital visit plus recuperation time is expensive.
PPE
The gear featured below is some outstanding personal protective equipment for tree removal and pruning.
Indepth Guide Regarding the Chain
A Cutter Tooth
The chain on your chainsaw is the heart of tree removal. Proper care of the chain is very important. A dull chain will cause time delays in tree removal and pruning. This can be very frustrating. In the following video you will see a description in great detail of the five parts of the cutting tooth and how it works. Sharpening the chain must be done properly to make your cuts are straight and quick.
Chainsaw Accessories
The life of your chainsaw is only as good as your maintenance. These are some of the items that will help you to enjoy your chainsaw for many years.
Why You Should Never Ever Do Tree Work From a Ladder
Some people just don't know what they don't know. It is usually better to get a professional to do the job, even if it looks easy. Here is an example. Injuries can be quite serious.
Considerations When Calling a Tree Service
A lot of arborists have tree cutting down to how much money they can make in a day. Don't get me wrong I love money, too but I love climbing. Tree climbing is an art. To prune a large live oak or take down a large tree over someone's house that no one else can do; that makes my day.
When a professional gives you an estimate, many factors are considered. Proximimity of the tree to the home and/or structures. The height and width of the tree as well as the amount of limbs will determine the amount of waste to be removed. Are there any power lines, fences and gates, septic tanks, gas meters or sprinkler systems nearby? This will determine not only the route to remove the waste, but will give an idea of about how long it will take to remove the waste as well. Landscaping is also a factor. Remember the tree service is also responsible for everything in your yard.
When the arborist comes to give you an estimate, keep these things in mind. Being the fifth highest ranked of most dangerous jobs in the United States, the insurance rates are very high. The equiment is very expensive. The price of a good saw for example is about 500.00 dollars (USD). Ropes and fuel cost are among the highest expenses. Even though its wood landfills (dump sites) charge by weight and it can very exspensive. The EPA is making it really hard to get rid of the waste and travel from your site to the dump site is also calculated into the estimate.

- Fortunately, No. Well, I did get a chainsaw stuck one time. Overhead limbs made the thing twist. This was in a pretty forested area, but taught me a bit about cutting trees in succession. I myself am more into pruning, providing light and air to a tree. I look at trees differently now.
It's what I talk about with language. How you see(a word, a tree) becomes what you see(its etymology, its overall health). We can compare writing to planting a tree. Both have a lasting satisfaction.

- Thanks for sharing your experience. I agree with you about looking at trees differently. Once you start pruning and see the effects it is like another world.
