Animals have a special place in my heart. This lens has been made to help raise awareness and funds for great nonprofits that work hard to take care of all kinds of animals.

I will use it to make this Lens better.Second, for those of you new to squidoo, you've happened across a page that can help generate funds for the Humane Society of the United States.
Here's how it works, if you click on links that refer you out to other places then $$ comes into a hopper at Squidoo and they pay HSUS. This is why I've put all the merchandising stuff at the bottom of the page. These generate lots of $$. So if you've been thinking about renting a certain movie, or buying a certain book or getting a gift for someone, then please click through from here.
Another purpose of this lens is to direct you to awesome animal rescue organizations across the US. Many of these people do wonderful work to make sure that homeless and orphaned animals get a second chance to find a home with no threat of ever being killed. Many also work hard to educate about pet overpopulation and find ways to stop the animal overpopulation problem.

- Our Pal's Place
- Georgia-based dog rescue and education center. They literally rescue dogs from death row at Georgia animal control shelters. Additionally, they work hard to educate kids on the pet overpopulation problem through scouting workshops on pet care, mobile education programs to schools, and Camp OPP (a summer camp for 5-8th graders).
- Helen Woodward Animal Center
- Helen Woodward Animal Center is a unique, private, non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of animals and enriching the lives of people. For more than 30 years, our no-kill Center has provided humane care and adoption for orphaned animals, as well as animal-centered educational and therapeutic programs for people.
- Good Mews
- Good Mews offers an alternative to traditional animal shelters in the Metro Atlanta area by providing a no-kill, cage-free haven for homeless, abused, or abandoned cats until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Good Mews promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs.
- Olympic Animal Sanctuary
- Olympic Animal Sanctuary is a nonprofit animal welfare and rescue organization located in Forks, Washington. The bulk of the Sanctuary's resources currently go into the care and rehabilitation of non-adoptable dogs: fighting dogs, street dogs, feral dogs, wolf or coyote hybrids, dogs that have killed other animals or bitten people -- at Olympic Animal Sanctuary, these dogs learn to get along with humans and each other, and they never have to live in fear again. People made them monsters; Olympic Animal Sanctuary lets them be dogs again.
- Spay & Neuter Team Atlanta
- Spay & Neuter Team Atlanta has spayed/neutered 21,000 animals since 2000-- putting a great dent in the pet overpopulation problem in Georgia.

- PAWS Atlanta, Inc. is a No-Kill animal adoption center that provides shelter, food and medical care for abandoned pets, and ensure they are placed in safe, loving homes.
