The Dangers Of Plastic Surgery

There are certainly risks in cosmetic plastic surgery. Within the last years the risks could be reduced so that serious complications happen in less than 1 percent of all patients. This is an excellent safety record and one of the reason is the increasing number of certified plastic surgeons and the big advances in technology and the development of new surgery techniques.

There are still risks remaining that could be the reason for awful plastic surgery. Maybe the patient has a history of high or low blood pressure or other genetic diseases.  Problems with the heart or the lungs can lead to complications. Cancer is a severe problem and still not curable in many cases. Obesity is a common problem that can lead to blood clots easily.

The better your overall health the lower your risks. There are very common diseases like arthritis or diabetes that can cause problems. No matter what health conditions you have or what medications you need to take, you must inform your plastic surgeon about every detail.

Smoking can cause serious infection problems. If you don't stop smoking weeks before the surgery then you are at high risk. But you shouldn't smoke after your surgery as well because smoking reduces the blood circulation and increases recovery time.

If you are obese, smoke a lot, have a problem with your heart and drink a lot alcohol you are probably a candidate for a plastic surgery gone wrong. It is probably better to make some changes to your lifestyle and live healthier before you take this venture.

Beside the common risk factors, there is always something that can go wrong with a surgery. There are thousands of cosmetic surgeries performed each and every week. A liposuction is the most common surgery followed by breast implant surgery. Women have about ten times more surgeries than men.

The problem of blood loss has also other complications. During the surgery the blood pressure could drop, the heart could start beating irregularly and there could be even a heart attack. Blood loss problems could even make a second surgery necessary.

Infections are another reason when a plastic surgery goes wrong. Smokers have a much higher risk of infections. Antibiotics must be taken several days after a surgery to avoid the serious complications of an infection.

The statistics seem to proof the fact that plastic surgery is very safe. It is indeed but never forget that it is not only the surgeon who can do things wrong but many of the risk factors are caused by you. Don't risk the results of a great cosmetic surgery by working against yourself.
