My experiences with a juice and water fast

I started writing a blog about my water and juice fast. You can read all about it at http://azfast.blogspot.com. I would like to share with everybody things that I feel are important and what I have learned while on the fast.

Before you fast, what you should do and know.

Fasting is a great way to detoxify your body and lose weight. In addition, it is a great way to connect spiritually with God and release your repressed feelings and emotions. Below are some tips to make it the best experience you possibly can.

  • FIRST AND FORMOST: Consult a physician or health practitioner experienced on fasting before any fast

  • Decide how many days you are going to fast

  • Try and do a fast when you have the best chance of not working

  • Eat raw fruits and vegetables for 3 days prior to the fast

  • While fasting consume only juice, water, or vegetables and fruits or soups and broths. This depends on what type of fast you are doing.

  • Write a daily diary or journal of your thoughts, feelings, weight etc. Your brain will be clear and your thoughts are vibrant at this time. See my diary at http://azfast.blogspot.com

  • Get plenty of rest while fasting, this is when your body is working the most efficient

  • When not resting, take it easy, but do keep your mind and body occupied. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY

  • Coming off a fast is as important as the fast itself. A general rule is for every 2 days of fasting, take 1 day to come off the fast. So, if you fasted for 10 days, give yourself 5 days to break the fast. This means light, raw and healthy foods. Start off with some soup or soup broth, or applesauce/yogurt. Then gradually move to fruits and vegetables. Don't break the fast with burgers or pizza, you will get very sick, and diminish the effects of the fast

Water fast vs Juice fast

Juice Fasting vs Water Fasting

Well, the obvious here is on a water fast you drink only water, and on a juice fast you drink fresh fruit juices, vegetable juices and water.

Water fasts are much more "gruelling" than juice fasts. It is important on a water fast that you get a lot of rest, and keep physical activity to a minimum. Purists will say that a water fast is "water only", however I feel that a juice fast with lemon juice will achieve the same effects, but I can't back this up scientifically.

Juice fasts involve drinking only the juice of the fruits and vegetables. Usually this is done through a juicer. Common fruits are:

  • Apples

  • Oranges

  • Grapes

  • Pineapple

  • Watermelon

  • Berries (Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries

  • Cherries

  • Pomegranate

  • Mango

and... Common Vegetables are:

  • Carrots

  • Celery

  • Spinach

  • Cucumber

  • Beets

  • Bell Peppers

  • Turnips

  • Onions

  • Lettuce

Always try and drink your juice as soon as you make it, valuable vitamins and minerals are reduced by enzymes in as little as 24 hours after you juice it. If you cannot drink it within 24 hours, store your juice in an airtight container. This can be done by filling up a can or bottle all the way to the top and sealing the cap or lid.

What can I expect on a fast

Health benefits of Fasting

Does fasting cure disease and infection?

When your body is in fasting mode, the energy utilized for digestion is channeled towards parts of the body that the body can get rid of. One of the common myths about fasting is that you lose muscle, but your body is smarter than that, and your muscle cells remain intact, however they may not be as big as they were before the fast.

Your body will turn to several different places to nourish itself while on a fast. Tumors (neoplasms), dead cells, fat deposits, abcesses, bumps, callouses, stones, and damaged tissues. This process is called autolysis, which in a nutshell, means "self-digestion".
