Azureus and uTorrent comparison
Azureus overview
Vuze compared to uTorrent
Azureus is a powerful open source BitTorrent client with a huge amount of features and support for 3rd party plugins. It recently evolved into Vuze - a p2p (peer-to-peer) network of high quality video content - but you are still able to use the classic Azureus interface if you wish so.Azureus requires Java Runtime Enviroment (JRE). This is good because it can run on any operating system that supports JRE, and it is bad because Java-based Azureus uses quite a lot of system resources. Many people say that Azureus downloads faster than uTorrent, but tests have been conflicting so far and there's no definite conclusion.
uTorrent overview
uTorrent compared to Azureus
uTorrent is a lightweight and efficient torrent downloader. It is closed source, which Azureus fans are quick to point out as a big flaw (it's possible for the uTorrent developers to add anything they want to the program, such as DRM protection, or copyright breach reporting, without the users' knowledge). There's also no plugin support, and it has less features than Azureus (but still more than you will probably ever need).Unlike Vuze client, uTorrent is not Java-based. This is good because uTorrent is really small, fast, and uses very little CPU and RAM. This is bad because uTorrent can only run on Windows and not Linux or any other operating system (no cross-platform support is in yet). There is no doubt that uTorrent is faster than Azureus when it comes to the program itself; on the other hand, various Azureus and uTorrent speed comparison tests have shown different results, so it's not clear which torrent client can produce higher download speeds.

people still have 4gb of ram or less? People now and days should have 8gb of ram! honestly there are many variables that come into play. i know for sure internet connection makes a differnce. My avg download speed is 500 kB/S (on my main computer, T3 connection). On my laptop (Sony, fixed wireless 14 Mbps) i have utorrent with wifi connection my avg dl speed is 300 kB/s. but i do like both programs, utorrent on the go with my laptop and Vuze on my main comp. as long as my downloads are around 200-500 Kb/S no biggie!

I was used to use windows. Now, I am a ubuntu user. So, I can trust much more in Vuze if i want change my operating system. The web interface rocks also. I can put torrents from my work accessing my home's computer. using window's software via wine is not the best way that you can do with a software...

I have used uTorrent for two years, but made the switch (back) to Vuze yesterday. In uTorrent, I sometimes have connection problems and low speeds. Vuze is very reliable, and downloads and uploads a lot faster.

I'am using vuze since 5-6 years until now. I loved it as i got it and i still do.
Also tryed this µshit. Didn't left longer than a few hours on my drive.
Azureus/Vuze have some great features i got used to and don't want to miss anymore.
Vuze is a great work.

WTF, I really don't get how vuze is a RAM hogger,
see just yesterday i was downloading 4 disc.iso (4 parts), all of which have seed to leach ratio of around 28/32, and greater than 3.5gigs (file Size)
i have just 512ram, (a1118x HP Pavilion)
and vuze was downloading all 4 at an average speed of 216KBS
but at the same time i started palying Sudden Attack (Korean FPS) while on you-tube, (Glitch Tut)
and my comp was working just fine
-no blazing CPU

Here is what i have:
I have both software running at the same time both with different content . and a second pc with the same content but on the opposite application; let me explain:
I have pc1: Vuze: downloading files 1,2,3,4,5 uTorrent: 6,7,8,9,10
On pc2: Vuze: downloading files 6,7,8,9,10 uTorrent: 1,2,3,4,5
and bot applications and pcs are running at about the same speed and downloads marks, i have seen both pcs and applications peak to 300k and as slow as 200b/s
Conclusion is they both are about equal, regardless of memory usage/if u have sufficient memory, other than that.. no difference.....

If you're one of the usual sad Windows users who barely understand enough about computing to turn the thing on then uTorrent is perfect. Anyone who uses a proper operating system like Linux or OS X and cares about what data might get passed around by uTorrent behind their back uses Azureus.

Azureus downloads faster than Utorrent as from my experience I think Azureus has a stronger hold on the connection of the peers compared to Utorrent. The only thing bad about Azureus is that it uses a lot of RAM but common everyone has more than enough RAM so that is not something to worry about.

I've used both and there's no denying that uTorrent uses less CPU and RAM than Azureus. On the other hand I have a modern PC with 2-core CPU and 4 GB RAM, so running Azureus with a big number of files downloading is no problem at all.
Also it being open source software is a huge benefit, no matter what you say :)

Alistair says:
most of you so-called experts clearly have no idea what you're actually talking about. How pretentious. While it is true some peole are pathetically unable to turn on their pc, there is nothing about OSX and certainly NOTHING about linux that make them "proper". Utorrent uses very little resources so you are free to play crysis simultaneously. On the highest settings. save for Anti-aliasing of course.

Utorrent has done everything I've needed it to do without any extra flash, I am a man of minimalist needs and Utorrent is minimal. I tried Vuze; it was slower to start, hogged resources (even if you have a lot of ram and a fast cpu doesn't mean you should waste a lot of it on one program; that's just common sense) and it was loaded with unnecessary features. If you're in the business of downloading torrents UTorrent is the way to go. If you're easily distracted by lights and shiny things then Azureus (Vuze) is the way to go.

I've used both on same machine. uTorrent on the windows XP and Azureus on Ubuntu (I have a dual boot environment). So as my ISP was same, so I would argue that the results should be more accurate, both of them performed equally. As for the program itself, utorrent is super fast and neat.

I prefer uTorrent. While Azureus (Vuze) may contain many more features than uTorrent, for a person with low RAM, uTorrent is perfect. uTorrent may also be better for those who like simplicity. While I admit that Vuze seems more polished, I still prefer uTorrent.

uTorrent is the best of all torrent software's. It kicks all of the other torrent clients. It can be used on linux too by using wine. It has an awesome file check algorithm. It's very lite u even wudn't know that it's running in ur system. I have Azureus and Vuze it has lot of features, it's basically a resource hogging client. I rate uTorrent 9/10 Overall whereas Vuze 3/10.

When Azureus was just 2.5 it was the best client ever, but since the 3.0 version and the HD TV stuff entered the line, noway! Vuze is becoming very heavy and loosing its main job, P2P sharing; Files not HDs!

Having used both for quite a long time, I prefer uTorrent because of it's ease of use, simple interface, and it's light-weight impact on my system. I have noticed no substantial "speed" differences between the two as far as downloading goes, but as it is, that is all based on Seed/Peer ratio anyway. I can say that I do not like the new interface of Vuze because I find that all of that extra stuff takes up all of my screen space when I am only using a small portion of it.

Utorrent
Small, fast, feature rich, can be set as portable, skinnable,
doesn't have annoying user interface, well-programmed, only has the features that i need. Only bad thing is it can only run on windows, but i dont use linux or mac so i don't care. it is so small, a c++ app.

- I downloaded and installed Utorrent, and being a longtime Vuze user, I could use some help understanding how utorrent compares or even works:
In Vuze, I search a keyword of what I'm looking for, and then I sift thru all the choices, choose, and then download.
But it seems like Utorrent searches for torrents but doesn't actually provide the download? I don't really get it.

- Only some anonymous usage statistics, and only if you've checked the checkmark in your Preferences (otherwise it won't send anything). Now, since it's not open source, no one except the developers know *for sure* what uTorrent is reporting... But I think there's no reason to worry.

- DEFINATELY uTorrent!! VUZE is good if you're not using windows because it's the fastest for non-windows machines, but if you have windows (as most people do) then uTorrent kicks VUZ's ass! either way, don't take my word for it, download them boath, and test them both on the same torrent, then you'll get an idea! they're both free and easy, so why not!??

- Funny how things turn out, I remember BitTorrent being the biggest and most popular client out there. Now they kill it and start using uTorrent as the base for the official BitTorrent client. Basically all they do is re-brand it and rename it to 'BitTorrent'. So yeah, uTorrent is most popular for sure with Azureus aka Vuze possibly taking the 2nd place.
