Boeing's B-47 Stratojet was SAC's first operational swept-wing bomber, serving until the late 1960s in the bomber, reconnaissance and testbed roles. The design was started out as a straight-winged aircraft that owed something to the B-29, but well before first first flight had been completely recast with swept wings for much better performance.
