Who is The B-52s

Ranked #8,598 in Music, #228,661 overall

It wasn't a Rock, It was a Rock Lobster!

The B-52s burst onto the music scene in the late 1970s, combining elements of New Wave and dance music, earning them the nickname of "The Ultimate Party Band." Their music was always upbeat, sometimes kitschy and always had a great sense of humor. Having three singers who shared primary vocal duties gave them their own sound.

The band's future was in question when lead guitarist Ricky died of AIDS, having kept his diagnosis secret from all but one other band member for over two years, including his own sister, but the band ultimately decided to keep on rockin'! They now can be seen during summertime tours and play private and lucrative corporate gigs.

The B-52's
Like Blondie, another New Wave band with 50s roots, but from Athens, Georgia, rather than New York, and with a more highly developed sense of camp. Most songs were co-written - though I believe lead singer Fred Schneider was primarily responsible for the lyrics - and a democratic approach prevailed in the recordings as well: each band member had an individual sound, all adding up to an instantly recognizeable whole.

Kate's Lazy Meadow
Hi, this is Kate Pierson and I'd like to personally invite you to Kate's Lazy Meadow Motel, my cabin fever fantasy. Monica and I have tried our best to create our dream getaway right here in the Catskill Mountains, near famous Woodstock, New York.

As a member of the rock band, The B-52s, believe me, I've stayed at them all - from the Four Seasons in LA to the Pink Flamingo Motel in Gatorville, Florida. I do know a motel from a hotel, or a no-tell!
