BEE: business consulting and PR nightmare?

Ranked #154,353 in Business & Work, #1,200,591 overall

Performance based project management

Staffing your business is always a difficult affair, but even more so when the project management has to be performance based, as it sometimes happens, your employee's colour. As any South African business analyst can testify, the way that the business world was run prior to 1994 was incorrect and should be changed. Therefore, the BBBEE (also known as BEE) policies are designed to rectify the wrongs of the past as well as to prepare the companies for the future.

Your company need not "shove out" experienced business analysts and consultants for the sake of complying with this policy, but only to add to the community or the skills of previously disadvantaged black people. The ripple effect that preferential procurement will have down the supply chain will eventually affect almost all areas of business, from project management and ownership, to those who answer your phones. Additionally, including black staff members will ensure that you become a part of an ever growing and vibrant economy. The recognition of being BEE compliant will also produce increased investment in your company from international investors. So long as intellectual capital is maintained while hiring, no negative effects can occur when adhering to the BEE policy requirements.

BEE compliancy

BEE compliancy makes companies more recognisable, while preferential procurement policies enable your company to move swiftly skywards in the emerging economy of South Africa. If you are in any doubt about the role that BEE plays in project management, the results gained from the health checks of many companies prove that BEE does not have to be a negative aspect of South African business policy or restrictive on your company. BEE has alleviated the country's business community of the intolerances of the past, and enterprising communities can now look forward to a future of true and equal opportunity, where a person is judged on their abilities and not on the colour of their skin. Business consulting firms would do well to realise this when staffing problems arise. The future is bright; the future is non-racial.
