Fleece baby blankets are often the easiest to make at home. Just cut the fabric to the size you want but add about 3 inches to each side. You can cut slits all the way around the blanket and tie each "tab" in a knot. This is a fringed fleece blanket. Fleece is very forgiving and does not unravel at the edges so no sewing is necessary. It is extremely warm but does collect lint and dog hair very easily. Be careful of that.

You can add all kinds of cute trims to baby blankets. The number one rule here though is if it will come off of the blanket, don't use it. If it will fit in baby's mouth, they can choke. Although blankies look fine without trim, the most popular blanket trim is satin blanket binding. Blankets can also be trimmed in bullion fringe, tassle fringe and others.

Blankets can be personalized by embroidering baby's name and birthdate, weight and height. You can also embroider cute designs on baby blankets.
