A few laughs from "National Lampoon's Vacation"

The Griswalds are a great, and funny, example of an unplanned vacation. This is a summer classic...a few "get the little ones out of the room" moments (at least that's how it was in our home) but so funny!

History of our National Parks

Don't miss them if they are along the way

I know National Parks aren't the only things to see on a road trip, but if there happens to be a National Park along the way, don't pass by without visiting.

We loved this series, and learned a lot, making seeing the actual location all the more special.

What State is this National Park in? A Quiz

I've Named the Park, You Guess the State

We've visited and/or camped in a number of National Parks in our travels. I thought it would be fun to get you in a "vacation" state of mind by offering the following quiz.

There are 10 questions. Have fun!

Scrapbook Memories While On the Road

A nice way to pass time at the campsite or in the RV

If you are on an extended trip, you'll be taking along your camera, and maybe even a way to print out pictures depending upon whether you are living on the road or not. Put together some scrapbook crafting supplies to take along with you and spend some of your spare time putting together memories of your trip. This will be easier to do on long trips or if you are living for an extended period of time in an RV.

Find your favorite vacation resort or camping location with Google Maps

I've marked one of ours

We've made many trips to Bar Harbor, Maine, which is part of Acadia National Park. We enjoyed camping in Blackwoods Campground with our children, and there are plenty of spots for RVs.

You can enter any location you like and this map will take you there. You can look at map view or satellite view (upper right) or zoom in and out and move about using the tools on the upper left of the map. Have fun!

We'd be lost without our GPS

I have a terrible sense of direction

These are some items that will help you arrive at your destination without getting lost...something I am notorious for doing...if I feel like I should turn one way, I'm probably better off going the opposite direction! My dear husband is so tired of calls asking how to get from where I am to where I'm going, that he gave me a GPS for Christmas in 2009.

Here are some GPS ideas to choose from. Just make sure it's one you use on the road. There are also GPS's for hiking and biking, great fun if you like geocaching...a fun thing to do on the road.

Where are you vacationing this year?

  • wordstock Oct 9, 2011 @ 8:45 am | delete
I missed three on the quiz. Two because I did not know and one that I hit the wrong key. It was easy because I have camped at seven of them. Camping lists are the only way we plan our camping. I like that you included lists for meals. That is incredibly helpful. We will be camping at the Catalina State Park in Tucson later this month. Angel blessed

We're at a point where all of our vacations still involve our children, only now we need to visit them where they are living. Nice idea in this lens. Thanks!

That sounds fun...there must be sights to see on the way, and with them. Thanks for visiting!

I travel to Minnesota every summer but its not really a vacation. My husband takes time off in October (in honor of Halloween) but as a teacher I can't go anywhere then. We NEED to plan something TOGETHER.
    Thanks for sharing

My husband's job has made it extra-challenging to vacation this year, we are actually vacationing after Christmas so we can make the most of the few days he has left, tacking them on to the holidays. Hope you find time to plan a vacation together soon.
