Baby Shower Food

"This is the baby shower food you prepared?" she asked.

My heart sank.

I could sense the slight disappointment in her voice.

 "It's not what you were after?" I replied.

"Oh... no, no... it's ok I guess..."

I didn't really know what to say. It had been four days since Pam had asked me if I could arrange the baby shower food for the party. She was acting politely but I could tell underneath just how disappointed she was.

When she had first asked me to be in charge of the baby shower food, I thought it was a really great idea. It was my very first baby shower and I was very excited to actually be part of it!

It wasn't until later that it dawned on me how little I knew about arranging the food for ANY party, let alone a baby shower.

I had ended up just going to a supermarket and picking up the usual kind of snacks you get for a kids party and a few drinks. I thought this would be fine.

The rest of that day, all the other guests didn't really mention anything about the food - good or bad... but I could tell this was just out of politeness. I could just feel the disappointment hanging in the background.

It's difficult to explain how I was feeling. I felt like I had let Pam down. No - I felt like I had let Barbara down. After all, it was her baby.

That first baby shower was a shock to me.

At first I had been so excited about it but it had turned out to be a disaster (in my mind anyway).

However, I was determined to learn from my mistake.

I began to appreciate how special a baby shower really was. It is the celebration of a new life, and many times a baby shower will only occur once for a mother. It's important to make it absolutely PERFECT.

Less than a month later and there was another baby shower approaching. I really wanted to make up for the previous one and I just about managed to convince Terri (who was organizing the baby shower this time) to let me provide the baby shower food again.

I realise now that you can't just stroll down to the local supermarket to get your baby shower food. You need to go to a speciality shop. The food needs a special finesse.

Luckily for me, I found somewhere that specialized in baby shower foods!

It was AMAZING!

The place I had actually found was an online website called Appetizers.

I found a whole selection of amazingly delicious and delicate finger foods that were absolutely perfect for a baby shower and placed my order. Everything arrived the very next day.

It was perfect.

"Oh my God!"  Terri gasped when she saw the food.

"Marisa - this is incredible! How did you prepare all of this?!"

Words cannot describe the relief I felt.

Everybody was astounded at the food I had provided for the baby shower. I felt I could finally forget about my previous failure.

The funny thing is... from then on, whenever any of my friends or family has a baby shower, they nearly always ask me or my sister to take care of the baby shower food!

And you know where we get the food from each and every time!

Let me just advise you now... if you, or anyone you know, is supposed to be providing some baby shower food, don't try to get it yourself! Trust me - you'll be so grateful afterwards if you just get everything from Appetizers.

It really does take a weight off your back believe me.
