Grandma Baby Shower Ideas

Want a unique baby shower idea? Throw a baby shower for Grandma! Think about all the baby items Grandma could have at her house when her Grandchild came over. Bottles, diapers, wipes, pacifier, blankets, bibs, baby outfits, bath and grooming items, pack-n-play and so much more. Having essential baby items at Grandma's house makes the "over the mountains and through the woods, to Grandmother's house we go" trip easier for the new Mom and Dad, and new Grandchild of course.

Grandma's Heart

A Wish For Her Grandchild

Grandma's HeartWhen I heard you were on the way,
I smiled and wiped a tear away.
I cried the tear because I knew,
My heart had held a place for you.

As each day your Mommy grew,
I thought and thought and thought of you.
I wondered if you were a girl or a boy.
And what would be your favorite toy.

I wondered what games we'd play,
And how we would spend a day.
Would we talk or read or bake?
Oh, what special friends we'd make!

Would we dance or skip or sing?
What would be your favorite thing?
Would we cuddle, kiss and hug?
What would give my heart a tug?

When you were born, I held you close,
It's what I'd dreamed of most.
I touched your tiny fingers and toes,
I kissed your head, your cheek and nose.

Hello little grandchild, it is me,
My heart as happy as can be.
I wish for you the sun and moon,
I wish for you a happy tune.

Know that Grandma's always near,
I'd do anything, anything for you my dear.
When I heard you were on the way,
I smiled and wiped a tear away.

I cried the tear because I knew,
My heart would always belong to you.

- Teri Harrison

The theme for a Grandma Baby shower should revolve around being a Grandmother. Dress up the "Grandma Guest of Honor" with a shawl, an old fashion hat, glasses and clip-on earrings. Use old dishes or paper items that feature a Grandmother.

Grandma Baby Shower Invitations

Grandma Loves Me

Grandma Love MeBorrow a friends baby and gently press that child's feet onto an ink pad. Press the ink feet onto the front of a blank invitation. Finish filling out the baby shower invitation. Another idea is to borrow the ultrasound picture from the mother-to-be and copy that onto the front of the invitation.

Create an invitation in the form of a birth announcement. Grandma-to-be is going to take on a new role as soon as the baby is born so announce this great transformation for the baby shower invitation.

Have a caricature drawn of a Grandma in a rocking chair surrounded by baby toys, bottles, diapers, and everything baby.

On any invitation mention that this a "Grandmother-to-be" baby shower. Ask all of the guests to dress to look like a stereotypical Grandmother and ask them to bring words of wisdom for the honored guest. as she settles into her new role.

Guide to Being a Grandma

For Family Nurturing & Safety

Baby Showers for Grandma

When I read this excerpt
I was reminded how important the role of Grandma
is in the life of her Grandchild.

"The most exciting thing about being a grandparent is watching your own child become nurturing. The miracle of a new baby is overwhelming, but to watch your son or daughter becoming a parent is just as miraculous. We watch with awe, pride and, sometimes, trepidation as our sons and daughters do their best to raise strong and healthy offspring. We know how demanding a job that is. We want to help. We should help. And we do.

We want to keep our grandchildren safe and sound. We want to make our homes and theirs safe havens where nothing bad can happen to them. We want to share with our own children the lessons we learned-and learn a few new tips ourselves.

The contributions grandparents make to their families are extraordinary. Some, like baby-sitting or giving them safe cribs or strollers, are tangible. Others, like providing a role model for grandchildren, are intangible but just as powerful and real. We do know that virtually every study of child development shows that youngsters lucky enough to have loving grandparents are destined to be winners. All research on single parents shows that the future of the children is correlated with support from grandparents.

We also know that grandparents can make their children's job of parenting a lot easier. When you lend a sympathetic ear to an upset parent you provide a safe outlet for often difficult emotions. When you give your children a night off by baby-sitting, you give them and your grandchild a much-needed break from the inevitable strains of the nuclear family. When your children know that, in a pinch, there is someone to step in to love their children and keep them safe, you give them the most valuable kind of support.

More and more, we see grandparents providing reliable and dedicated child care. In fact, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that about 1.3 million children are entrusted to their grandparents every day. That same 1994 study says another 2.4 million children live in households headed by a grandparent. It means that numbers of grandparents make it possible for the young ones to grow up in stable homes and communities.

But it's the daily acknowledgment that we get from our children and grandchildren that inspires us to develop and maintain those loving connections. What fun to watch their eyes widen and sparkle when you tell your grandchildren about how their mommy was as a small child! We know it's not always easy, that it takes thought, finesse and devotion. It requires us to be emotionally flexible and nurturing. We have to be vigilant and make our homes safe for children. We need to take our role modeling seriously-for our children and grandchildren."

Handcrafted Baby Gift Baskets for Grandma

Baby shower gift baskets for Grandma can be anything for the new Grandchild. With a little creativity you can design and create your own beautiful, and useful, baby gift basket.

  • The "basket" does not need to be an actual basket with a handle. Think about anything that a baby needs that can be filled with baby items: a diaper bag, bathtub, bassinet or even a wagon.

  • Line the container with a thick, soft blanket, hooded bath towels or receiving blankets. A diaper bag can be lined with onesies, crib sheets or receiving blankets.

  • Fill the basket with a variety of small items, trying to keep to a theme such as bath time, bedtime, laundry basket or getting ready to go out on the town or going for a wagon ride.

  • Below are some ideas for items to fill your themed gift basket:

    BOPPY
One of the best things I have at my house for my Grandchild is a horseshoe style pillow called the "Boppy" It is a feeding and infant support pillow that can be used as the Grandchild grows. Lay the baby on the Boppy for feeding, use it for propping the baby us slightly after feeding to reduce reflux, use it to help the Grandchild with tummy time and support the baby when learning to sit. This present will be helpful through many months of the Grandchild's young life and is a good present for Grandma.

    Music Boxes
I love to sing by Granddaughter to sleep but there were times when I, for whatever reason, could not sing. This is when a music box would be a great asset for Grandma's baby product arsenal. Here are music boxes that play familiar baby nursery rhymes and some of your favorite children songs.
    Chairs
The infant-to-toddler vibrating and musical chair was a life saver when the baby was a little fussy and needed to be put down. No one can carry the baby around all day, especially Grandma, and this chair pacified my Granddaughter. She could stretch out and play with the mobile overhead toys while I got things done around the house. I recommend this for any Grandma to have at their house when baby comes over.
    Health and Grooming
Whenever their is an newborn, infant or toddler in the house it is important to have the bare essentials of health and grooming in the house. The child may get a fever, need its little nails trimmed or just need to have her hair combed. It is really nice to have these items at Grandmas house.
    Jumping Toys
As the newborn grows there is a need to stimulate them, even at Grandmother's house. Having the toys at Grandmas house eliminates the need for the Mom and Dad to bring them over for each visit. They will appreciate how easy it is to visit when everything is at Grandma's house.
