Baby Shower Poems
How I used baby shower poems to introduce myself to my new neighbors.
I was new in the neighborhood. The first party invite I received was to a baby shower.
This idea that it might be fun to introduce myself to my new neighbors with a bunch of baby shower poems came to me as I was soaking in the tub.
It was a crazy, totally left field idea. I hadn't written a poem since my early school days. But you know what it's like when you get ideas, sometimes they're like an itch that's just gotta be scratched.
And this one was itching like I had fleas.
So, I jumped out of the tub and dripped my way down the hall to the den where we keep the computer.
Google came up trumps with For Your Baby Shower: Poems for the Mother & Child. The title captured my exact situation. I ordered it right away.
Now, right here, I have to let you into a little secret. Two evenings of sitting in front of the computer resulted in not one single poem that I was prepared to air in front of a bunch of strangers. And that was when the book came to my rescue.
I'd been leafing through its pages, reading odd poems here and there in search of inspiration, when it occurred to me that all I had to do was compile my own selection. It was like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders.
You might say that my introduction to my new neighbors went with a bang. I replied to the invitation with a poem. I read out a couple of selected poems at the party and everyone laughed which was a great feeling. And I sent another poem in my "thank you" letter.And that was just the beginning. I really got into writing and reading poetry. It's got me a lot of party invites, and not just to baby showers either.
If you've got a baby shower party coming up I've made a link directly to Amazon right here Baby Shower Poems.
This would be the quick and dirty solution but maybe you should consider writing your own? I found this fanatastic little book about writing poetry from a real pro, Robhin Behn. Go ahead, get inspired, use your own imagination. Click The Practice of Poetry Now!
Magical Baby Shower Poems
Making Music With Poetic Rhythyms
"Marisa, that was so beautiful. Where did you get that from?" When my girlfriend asked me that, I knew I had a winner. I guess what really surprised me was her teary eyes and the look that told me that the poem had really "found" her in a special way.
I'm not a poet myself (I wasn't even an English major) so when I searched for a special baby shower poem all over the internet I didn't know exactly what to look for. You don't have to be a poet to be disappointed with most of what you find. I wanted to find something that would touch my friend's heart, something she would remember me by on this very special occasion for her.
So when she told me how she just loved it I was so happy to share that moment with her. I started to think about what it was that set that poem apart from all the others that I had looked at. The language was beautiful, the words...but it began to dawn on me that the poem itself was like a song. I could hear the rhythms in the words, in the voice, cascading sounds, like a love song from the mother to the child.
So what was it about the poem that set it apart from the mostly unimpressive baby shower poems that I had found? For me it was the rhythm, the beautiful "music" weaving and wafting in the words. So, I began to research about poetic rhythms and discovered a whole new, fascinating world that I had not thought about before. The poem I had chosen was a sonnet.
To be a sonnet, a poem must have a very definite rhythm, something called iambic pentameter. English majors would probably know what that is but it has a certain fixed rhythm of long and short sounds. If you stray outside of the rhythm, it loses it ethereal quality. It's like the rhythm gives it its unique character, its personality. The poem was written by a musician, a harp player who had written the poem and a musical lullaby that he played at a one of his big performances for the year.
I was so touched. My friend was too. I only wish that everyone looking for baby shower poems could have that experience.
So, I'm wondering what it is that people searching for baby shower poems on the internet are really looking for? Would you please help me? If you would help me to understand that I will link you to the rest of that very special baby shower poem and lullaby video. Please click on the link on the "Click here to take survey" , answer just the one question and then on to the video finale'.
Blessings and thanks so much.

Baby Shower Limerick Poems
Do It Yourself Baby Shower Poems
I was reading up on poetry in general. Suffice to say that baby shower poems were not necessarily on the minds (or in the hearts) of the great poets but I came across some interesting information about "Limerick" poetry, a poetic form reportedly invented by a man named Edward Lear and named after a town in Ireland:There was a Young Lady whose chin,
Resembled the point of a pin;
So she had it made sharp,
And purchased a harp,
And played several tunes with her chin.
See, not too hard. That's a form I could easily work out of myself to write a funny, heartfelt poem for my friend. How about this:
There was a young mother to be,
Who had not one baby but three;
Oh husband she cried,
Regarding safety, you lied!
She was a woeful young mother to be.
Well, maybe I won't rank up there with Mr. (King?) Lear but I had fun...and it only took a few minutes. Try it!
