How to Knit Baby Booties?

A Nice Gift for Babies

Few days ago when I looked after some clothes for my son, I found a pair of baby booties in the closet. I smiled because these were my daughter's first bootees which I knit for her.

I flew back in time and I remembered the moments when my children were born. Those moments were wonderful and unforgettable. In my opinion the birth of a child is the greatest wonder in world .

These pink baby booties are soft and they have warmed my daughter's little feet. She was born in autumn, and although it was warm in our room, I had to put booties on her little feet, because when she played the blanket always slipped .

Thanks God, many children have born in our family. I knitted these bootees as a gift for babies and, of course, I used pink yarn when I knitted bootees for a baby girl and light blue yarn for a baby boy bootees.

I'll describe you the way I knitted the booties, and I've included a module which contains a bootee pattern for left handed knitters. I think that these baby booties will be a cute gift for a newborn baby.

Knitting Instructions

For Right Handed Persons

# 1. Choose the yarn from which you want to knit the bootees and choose the knitting needles.

# 2. Put 34 stitches on needle( 32 stitches and 2 side stitches).

# 3. Now, you'll follow the next pattern :

Row 1 - Row 7: Knit these rows and the first rows will be "garter stitches".

Row 8 : Knit this row.
Row 9 : Purl this row.

Row 10 : Knit this row.
Row 11 : Purl this row.

Row 12 : Knit this row.
Row 13 : Purl this row.



Row 14 - Row 18 : Knit these rows.

Row 19 : Knit this row and at the end of row, put 10 stitches on needle.

Row 20 : Purl this row and at the end of row, put 10 stitches on needle. In this way you have now 54 stitches.



Row 21 : Knit this row.

Row 22 : Purl this row.

Row 23 : Knit this row.

Row 24 : Purl this row.

Row 25 - Row 28 : Knit these rows.

Row 29 : Bind of the row.

Let's Knit the Booties !


Now, we have to knit together some stitches in order to get the bootees. How?
When you bind off the last row the stitches will look like a chain. We'll use these "chain eyes" to continue our work. We divide our work in three parts: 22 stitches, 10 stitches - this will be the sole of the bootees and 22 stitches = 54 stitches.
In the first row you'll knit the 10 stitches.

More Knitting Instructions


Both, in the drawing and in the photo you can see the way how the stitches are knitted together. You'll knit together the side stitches in every row. Repeat it until you finish the bootee.




We have almost finished the soles of the bootee, and...




Here we can see how the bootee looks when we finished the soles.




Now, we'll knit the front part of the bootee, and ...




We'll continue to knit together the side stitches ...




Until we finish the bootee. Now, you'll have to knit one more bootee. When you finished the bootees, take a pink cord or ribbon and this will be the shoe / bootee lace.

Sugestion

These booties are for newborn babies. If you need bigger booties put more stitches on your needle when you begin to knit.

Knitting Instructions For Left Handed Persons

I Hope It Will Be helpful !

After I finished to knit these bootees, I realized that these instructions are easy to follow for all right handed persons. But what about those who are left handed ?! So, I took the knitting needles and from curiosity I tried to knit with left hand. Oh, it was a nightmare for me. I think this is how all left handed knitters feel, when they try to follow a right handed pattern.

So, I decided to re - write the knitting instructions for my baby booties, and I tried to make a pattern for left handed persons. I hope I could describe it in a helpful way.

Most of the descriptions are the same, and you can guide yourself after the photos from the right handed instructions. But there are a few places where I had to change the descriptions. Now, let's begin to knit :

# 1. Choose the yarn from which you want to knit the bootees and choose the knitting needles.

Few More Steps

In this photo you can see the way how the stitches are knitted together. You'll knit together the side stitches in every row. Repeat it until you finish the bootee.

When you finish to knit the soles of the bootee, you will continue to knit the front part of the bootee. ( See the pictures from "More Knitting Instructions " module )

Knit one more bootee and you'll have a cute pair of baby bootees.
