4 Quick and Very Effective Tips For Getting Baby To Sleep Through The Night
Getting baby to sleep through the night will not happen overnight, it will require some work.
Remember that every baby has a combination of different needs so one solution does not fit all. However, here are some quick general baby sleep tips to get you on your way to finding out exactly what your child needs.
1. Have a baby sleep routine.
I have found this to be very important. It is beneficial for the child because it will give them something familiar each night and get them to expect that sleep time is coming. Make sure it is something you are able to stick to night after night.
2. Give them a cuddle object.
Let your child go to bed with a favorite blanket or stuffed animal. It will make them feel more secure while falling asleep or if they wake up during the night. Once again you could make it part of the baby sleep routine.
3. Let them fall back asleep on their own.
If your child wakes up lightly crying or tossing around a bit during the night, don't go in and interupt. I know this can be really hard, but sometimes and after a while most of the time they will fall back asleep on their own and this will create further sleep independence. Of course if there is a problem you need to tend to them right away, but most of the time parents can tell if it is urgent or not.
4. Consistency is key.
This is very important! Both parents must communicate and be on the same track, or baby may not sleep through the night. It is important that an action plan for your child is agreed upon by both parents and that you stick to it. If the parents are fighting about what is best, the baby will sense the tension and be less apt to sleep through the night. BE CONSISTENT. This holds true for anything relating to your child's upbringing.
Baby Sleep Aids - Music and Sounds
Do they help?
Music or sounds are great types of baby sleep aids you might want to try if you haven't already. Soft, relaxed music such as classical music at low volumes is very soothing for a baby's ears which can help get them to sleep.Leaving this music playing throughout the night is also helpful. Alternatively, white noise can be extremely soothing for baby. A fan, having the television on, or the sounds of nature .... birds, rain or whale sounds are very common. There are also white noise CD's available with the sound of a vacuum cleaner or washing machine etc. Again, these sound rather strange but really can help.

Baby Sleep Help - The Importance Of Where Your Baby Falls Asleep
It is very normal for parents, and in particular first-time parents to allow their baby
to fall asleep wherever they want to. Sometimes of course, it may seem like a
godsend if they fall asleep at all and you would be happy for them to just sleep
anywhere!
However, allowing your baby to fall asleep while breast-feeding, in your arms, or
even in a pushchair in your living room could be what is causing their sleep
problems.
You may well be asking how this could possibly cause sleep problems?
Well, quite naturally, when your baby goes to sleep somewhere that is not his or
her bedroom, you will then move them to their crib or cot so they can continue
sleeping peacefully.
But when your little one then wakes during the night, as most babies do, they will
suddenly find themselves in different surroundings to what they expected and this
can be very unnerving and scary for them.
Imagine that tonight you were to fall asleep normally in your own
bed. Now imagine that, some time in the middle of the night, you
awaken.
There's just one thing.
When you wake up, you're lying on your front porch and not in your
bed!
Might you be a little bit out of sorts from this? I certainly would
be.
But that's exactly what you're doing by letting baby fall asleep in
his or her Mother's arms in one room and waking up in a totally
different environment!
Your best bet on location is for your child to fall asleep in the same place
as he or she will spend the night.
All children wake briefly many times during the night this is perfectly normal.
If they wake in the same crib, in the same room, with the same lighting, and the
same sounds, as when they fall asleep, they will slip back to sleep much more
easily.
