Thinkin' about makin' a Boomer lens? This is for you.

This lens is for you if you are a Boomer lensmaster or are thinking about making a lens about Boomers.

We Boomers changed the world. It's up to you, the lensmaster, to show us how we did it, where we're goin' now, and what we just can't do without along the way.

Use the links, quotes, and other resources in this lens as pathways to everything Boomer. Then bring it on home with a new refreshing lens.

Grab a cup of coffee or a steamin' pot o' tea, sit down, and peruse the online mag just for Boomers. If you don't come away with plenty of ideas for a new lens, and one or two to jazz up your current lenses, Giddy may have to eat a flower from her garden hat.

Ca-ching! Ca-ching!

If you're hopin' to put greenbacks in your pocket while you're at it, several of the books in this lens point to what Boomers want and how deep we'll dig in our own pockets to get it. Ca-ching! Ca-ching!

We're still buyin' and settin' trends everywhere we go - Ca-ching!

Twenty percent of boomers have changed religions, 50% have changed spouses--you think they're not going to change toothpaste?

AgeWave's Ken Dychtwald as quoted in
Alain Jourdier's Marketing Bytes Man

Giddy sez: Get Ken Dychtwald's book Age Wave and wallow luxuriously in a wealth of Boomer lore, predictions, demographics, and fabulous phrases, such as "career veer" and "birth dearth." Giddy is dizzy with ideas after reading Ken's book. You will be too.

We're buyin' more music than ever - Ca-Ching!

The latest US research shows baby boomers and beyond now account for the largest share of music buyers.

Dan Glaister in The Guardian

Giddy sez: The beat goes on. So what are we listening to? Hmmm. New lens?

Age matters - boy are we findin' that out now!

Have you noticed that authority is gettin' younger and younger?

I honestly think this 9-to-12-year-old age group's discovery of rock and roll [in the 1950s], against the wishes of our parents, cemented into us older boomers two lessons that were behind much of what happened in the '60s: Question authority; Age matters.

Walter S. Mossberg, quoted on Slate's Chatterbox
by Timothy Noah, in "More on Boomers, Rock, and Walt Mossberg"
9/13/1999

Giddy sez: How many lenses could we build around that concept--Question Authority? Who said it first? What happened next? How many authors kept us questioning after that, and what did we read? Are their tomes relevant today? (Remember "Relevancy is everything"?)

Rebellion, riots, and rock 'n roll

Some of us lived to tell the tale

Want more? For perspective on how we got to here, Get this PBS vid showin' where we've been. Young blood: Rebellion, riots, and rock 'n roll in the Sixties, told in the first person by the people who lived it.

Has the "Me Generation" changed the world?

Are baby boomers the most narcissistic generation ever? Or have they been foot soldiers in the war to bring dignity and equality to all Americans? In The Greater Generation (Reviews, Oct. 17), Leonard Steinhorn (of American University) argues for the latter and says that boomer values of pluralism and egalitarianism have become the norm in America.

Publishers Weekly article, Boomers Rock! 10/24/2005

Giddy sez: Read excerpts from Greater Generation. The last paragraph on the first page riveted Giddy. She had to have more.

We shake, we rattle, we roll, and we vote!

Maybe it was the fact that we, as baby boomers, have such a stake in the future of this country so we'd better speak up now before it's too late.

Baby Boomer Bev at Fabulously Forty
on extraordinary voter turnout November 8, 2006

Giddy sez: So what are you waitin' for. With the first woman candidate and the first Black candidate to stand a chance at actually winning in the history of US presidential races, now more than ever, Boomers are influencin' the vote.

Yup, we're still fomenting revolution and transforming our world

Giddy sez: You can't think about Boomers these days without recognizing it's close to rockin' chair time. Or is it?

Check this one: Prime Time: How Baby Boomers Will Revolutionize Retirement and Transform America by Marc Freedman.

We stood up, sat in, but it's unlikely we'll be sittin' out anytime soon. I'd love to see a lens about that.

Make it funny

Or how about a lens on a humorous approach to Boomers' aging? Take this retirement home full of Sixties rockers and hipsters, in Jimi Hendrix Turns Eighty by Tim Sandlin, as a jumpin' off spot.

Go ahead! Read it! You'll laugh your head off.
