First Food Recipe

6 months+

Once your baby has been separately introduced to all the ingredients, try this tasty and simple recipe...

RICE AND VEGGIE DINNER

cooked brown rice
carrots
butternut squash
sweet potato

The quantities of veggies in this recipe are flexible - if your little one likes carrots, for example, but is less interested in butternut squash, then use a larger quantity of carrot. This is a good way to 'sneak' in veggies that your baby has previously refused!

Wash and peel the vegetables, then dice and steam them. Start the carrots first, as they take the longest to cook.

Combine the cooked vegetables with the cooked brown rice and puree until smooth, adding a little water or stock until you achieve the desired consistency.

Recipe for babies from 6-9 months

This recipe is full of flavor - remember, baby food does not have to be bland!

STEAMED APPLE AND CHICKEN DINNER

1 chicken breast (skinless)
little drop of olive oil
tiny piece of root ginger, peeled and crushed
1/2 small sweet potato
1/2 clove garlic, crushed (optional)
1/2 small red pepper, cubed
2 small broccoli florets
2 fl oz (1/4 cup) unsweetened apple juice

Preheat oven to 375 deg F, 190 deg C.
Place the chicken breast in the middle of a square of aluminum foil.
Drizzle the olive oil over the chicken, then top with the ginger, garlic and vegetables.
Creat a 'parcel' by gathering the foil together, then pour in the apple juice.
Seal the foil tightly and set on a baking sheet. Place in the oven and bake for 20-30 mins, until the chicken is cooked through and the veggies are tender.

A Recipe for the Baby Food Connoisseur!

For babies 10 months+

Did we say that baby food didn't have to be bland? This recipe is good enough for the whole family to enjoy!

WARMING FISH CHOWDER

8oz (1 cup) cod or other white fish, cut into 1" chunks (check VERY carefully for bones)
8oz (1 cup) small red potatoes, cubed
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 red bell pepper, cubed
1/2 green bell pepper, cubed
1 clove garlic (optional)
1 tbsp flour
6 fl oz (3/4 cup) milk (use breast milk/formula if you prefer)
pinch paprika

Simmer the potatoes until just tender.
In a lidded frying pan/skillet, saute the garlic and peppers in the olive oil over a medium heat.
When the peppers have softened, stir in the flour, then the milk and potatoes.
Place the chunks of fish on top of the mixture and cover.
Reduce the heat and simmer gently until the fish is done (10-15 mins) then chop as necessary for your baby.
