Confessions of a Baby Footprint Kit Addict
I still remember the baby shower I had before I had Abby. I got alot of gifts but the one that really stood out was a baby footprint kit. I just thought it was the coolest thing!
Since then I must admit I have developed a mild baby foot and hand print kit addiction. I have purchased 3 different kits over the past couple months just for myself. They are all baby print kits but they all have their own artistic style. I have them all displayed on a shelf in the baby room. I have also given several others as gifts to my friends.
So I have created this lense as an outlet for my baby footprint kit addiction. I hope to share with you some of my favorite baby hand print and footprint kits designs that I have found and give you a bit of a description of each. Also in case you are wondering I purchased all my kits at Baby Impressions.

When it comes to capturing the moment of a growing newborn, there are plenty of keepsakes that a parent stores away for sentimental reasons. A lock of hair, a bronzed pair of shoes, and their first tooth are just some of the things that help keep baby memories alive. For some, sharing the milestones and memories of a baby is an affair one would like to share with family and friends, but the above gestures are simply too personal to part with. This makes the impression of a baby handprint or footprint a great gift idea. On the market, an array of kits allows parents to spread their happiness and joy with others. Why Do Baby Handprints/Footprints Make Such Great Gifts?
One of the most precious memories of a baby includes the wriggling of tiny toes and fingers. As grandparents, best friends, and other family members look on with adoring eyes and amazement upon the fragile nature of new life, they can now possess this moment in time. Baby handprints and footprints set in plaster create treasured gifts that hold special meaning and warmth.Craft stores and online outlets offer a wide-range of baby handprint and footprint kits that help parents create a gift that stands the test of time. Usually, for a small price, kits permit the preservation of an exceptional period of time in a child's life. Once they begin to grow older, inching their way to adulthood - the moment is lost forever.
What Is Usually Included In a Handprint/Footprint Kit?
Often, parents take ink impressions of their children's feet and hands, but a more powerful statement is made when memories are set in "stone." Handprint and footprint kits often come with a bag of Plaster of Paris, a clear plastic container for the mixing and storage of the Plaster of Paris, detailed instructions, and sometimes a record card for the baby's name and date. How Hard Is It to Create a Footprint With One of These Kits?
Making a baby imprint in plaster is simple. All you have to do is follow the directions of your kit, which includes the mixing of the plaster. The Plaster of Paris should be emptied into a disposable mixing bowl. The appropriate amount of water is then added. The mixture should be stirred until it is the same consistency as peanut butter. You may have to add more or less water to achieve this step. Next the mixture is transferred to a given container.Once the plaster has lost its glossy shine, it is now ready for clean hands and feet. After an impression is made (carefully pressing each finger and toe into the plaster), the baby's skin should be immediately washed. The plaster should then be allowed to dry for about a week. Varying climates and levels of humidity will either increase or decrease the wait time. Overall, making an impression of a baby handprint or footprint is rather easy, although some parents find that the feet cause less hassle than the hands.
What Are Some Tips to Follow When Making an Imprint?
To make the process for a baby handprint or footprint, you can rub a little oil on the baby's hand or foot before making the impression. This helps to keep the plaster from sticking and also aids in clean-up. Sometimes babies aren't too keen on the idea of having their feet and hands placed in plaster and the best remedy to avoid confusion and crying is to execute the process while they are fast asleep. A fully awake child may curl their toes, clench their fists, or pull away. How Can I Personalize My Baby Footprint or Handprint?
When you are interested in personalizing your plaster imprint, it is important to include names, dates, and messages while the plaster is still soft. A toothpick can be used to write on the material. Some parents add decorative items, such as beads, seashells, and other visual treats around the plaster imprint. by proudmamma
