New Reviews from Our Peeps!

What the ladies are saying about BGB!

"I just wanted you and others to know that I have loved so many of the items that I've ordered from you guys!! You were so kind to even take off my shipping and handling charges, since I ordered such a large amount, using one of the coupon codes to save 20%. I thought that was awesome! You carry SO much clothing and accessories that are my style. Also, the customer service is wonderful. Keep sending those great discount codes, and I'll be definitely purchasing many more items from your site!! Thanks again!!"

"I just wanted to say I appreciate the attention and follow-through with your orders. This is the 2nd time I've placed an order and I am again impressed with the selection and availability of products and the speed that you ship everything. You recently added the item I just purchased and sent me a shipment notification within a day or so! Originally I tried to order this item over a month ago from another site who still has the item out of stock and they did not contact me about the problems nor update their website to say the item was out of stock. I had several inquiries unanswered when I tried to contact them. They have such poor customer service. I am very happy to have found your site and I look forward to many more orders!"

"My first order arrived yesterday. I absolutely love the Sinatra Blue Velvet dress. Thank you for providing great customer service, fast delivery, and a wonderful product."

"This is why I keep coming back, not only do you have the most fab stuff on the planet but your customer service is exceptional! Way above many other vendors, and I know I shop a lot, even better customer service than I get in person at stores! You all are fab never ever been dis-satisfied! Thank you VERY much for processing my return asap so I can take advantage of the 48 hour sale, that rocks, I shall continue singing the praises of the Goddesses at Babygirlboutique! Thank you again so much."

"Thank you thank you! You guys are awesome. You have the best selection of clothes and great service. That's why I've referred many of my friends to you. May the funk be with you!"

OUR MODELS

Here at BGB Headquarters, we feel very blessed to be able to work with such talented models as hot rod pinup Cherry Dollface, rockabilly belle Bernie Dexter, lovely Lucy Stone, cute Kitty Vicious, darling Daniell Wells, local fashionista Kelsey Danger, and the lovely and talented Sarah X. Dylan, as well as many other gorgeous gals!

Model Profile: Bernie Dexter

from www.BernieDexter.com

Hi, my name is Bernie Dexter. I am a rockabilly girl who lives the rockabilly lifestyle. I have been modeling for about four years now & enjoying it very much!

I draw my inspiration from the music I listen to & culture I surround myself in. One of my favorite performers from the 1950's is Johnny Burnette. I also draw inspiration from vintage girlie magazines & Exotique books that I have collected over the years. John Willie is my favorite exotique artist. I have also always been fascinated with starlets of the silver screen 50s burlesque!

When I was a child, I used to tell my mom I wanted to be a movie star! Not the kind from today, but the kind from the glamorous 1940's or 1950's! My mother was a burlesque dancer, so I guess you can say it runs through my veins! I do not do live burlesque, but do love to make home movie dance clips & still photos. As a child, I would stand at my mothers side & watch her apply her make up. I was amazed by the transformation. She even used false eyelashes! I think that is where I learned most of my own make up techniques. However, I am a licensed cosmetologist & worked for M.A.C. Cosmetics in the mid 1990's. M.A.C. is where I learned to be free & creative.

Quite often people think I resemble a certain pin up queen Miss B. It is not my intention to emulate her & personally, I NEVER really thought so. She is amazing & one of a kind. I am also one of a kind;)

Model Profile: Dottie Diamond

Describe your own fashion style in one sentence. Be creative!
"Modern Retro", "Rockabilly"

Please tell us about yourself in at least 1 paragraph
I am pin up/whatever kind of model... I am a singer. I am selling my 2010 Dottie Diamond Calendar. I love life and am the luckiest lady. I won Miss Portland Pin up 2008 and its helped me carve the path I am making for myself. I am the Official Billie Jo Retro girl. You can find me at babygirlboutique.com and I love to support the local designers here in Portland as well. I am up for almost anything I can find time for.

Now share something interesting about you that no one would ever guess!
I have a freakish habit of twirling my hair when I am thinking or nervous, you only know this about me if you have known me long enough...but I get a crazed look on my face when I do it ;)

Model Profile: Lucy Stone

I am a northwestern girl to the core!!! Great friends are just as important as my family. The dance floor is my second home. I love old houses, and shopping. I'm inspired by pin ups and vintage fashion!!

Model Profile: Cherry Dollface

From http://iblogfashion.blogspot.com

This week the ravishing rockabilly rebel / model Cherry Dollface gives us the benefit of her style kudos. If you dig old school Hollywood glamour with an edge, be sure to check her out at CherryDollface.com.

1. What's your definition of style?
Something that you look at and think, "Wow, I wouldn't have thought of that but it totally works!" I think style has to do with class, grace, and individuality. It is easy to copy something from a magazine or a store display, but much harder to come up with your own unique "thing." I think that style should have no boundaries or rules. If it looks good to my eye, I will wear it, and wear it proud!

2. Who would you kill to (un)dress?
I think that Gwen Stefani has amazing personal style and I love her clothing line. I would love to undress her and steal all of your clothes!

3. What fashion faux pas is most unforgiving. Be ruthless?
Tevas and black socks. Seriously. Also, men in sandals. Mandals, if you will. I think that a man showing his feet is a major fashion DON'T and I cannot stand it!

4. What is your fashion weakness?
Shoes!! Haha. I have way too many (or not enough?). They pour out of my closet and line the walls of my entire room. I still have pairs that have never seen the daylight but I love them all equally.

5. How many models does it take to change a lightbulb?
Models don't change light bulbs. That's what we have "people" for. Haha... :)

Model Profile: Daniell Wells

I am a broad spectrum model. I'm willing to try anything, unless it involves some form of poop. I've got a great sense of humor, so highly creative shoots, whether dark, evil, princess-y or hilarious are in high demand

Don't be a stranger!

BGB ARTICLES: Retro Clothing; Always a Chic Alternative

Are you looking for a unique style that you can call your own? Are you tired of wearing the same old clothes day in and day out? If this sounds like you, retro clothing may be just what you have been dreaming of. When it comes down to it, retro clothing has a lot to offer both guys and girls. No matter who you are, there is a good chance that you can pull this look off. After all, people have been wearing this look for many years. Although it went away for a good while, the fact of the matter is that retro clothing is once again back in play.

The most important thing that you will need to consider is where you can find retro clothing. Remember, buying the original clothes from many years ago may not be an option. Luckily, there are many retro clothing shops that are sure to meet your needs. The only thing that you need to do is determine where these stores are located, and then from there you can get started with the actual shopping.

Your best bet for finding retro clothing is the internet. There may be a store or two in your area that sells some of these pieces, but if you want the largest selection you will need to rely on the internet. This will give you the chance to find plenty of selections, and of course, you can also shop around for the prices that will best suit your needs.

Even if you think that a retro look is too much for you to handle, you should at least try it out. A lot of people look down on retro clothing until they actually try them on. From there, they realize how good they look and they cannot resist buying more and more.

Overall, there is a large group of people who love how they look in retro clothing. Are you going to be next? If you never try these clothes on you will have no way of saying for sure. For this reason, pick up a few articles of retro clothing and see where it takes you!

BGB ARTICLES: Hunting & Gathering & The Online Shopper

An Article by Tatyana Cathcart / Owner, Babygirl Boutique

According to Nielsen/NetRatings, Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Harris Interactive, one of the top reasons why consumers prefer to shop the web these days is the wider selection of products available. 26% percent of respondents cited this as the reason they forego shopping in the brick and mortar stores of their respective towns and cities.

I think this is particularly true of the international online shopper. We are continuously told by our international customers from Europe, Australia and New Zealand, in particular, that the variety and selection of apparel and accessories available to them locally, in their country of origin, is paltry in comparison with the goods they can "source" from American e-tailers.

This global marketplace is one of the reasons why eBay has been so hugely profitable since its launch. According to Nielsen/NetRatings, 10% of the time Brits spend online, is spent on eBay. However, the global marketplace is rapidly evolving and shopping online is much more secure these days. In addition, eBay has continuously raised their fee structure over the past few years, causing many e-tailers to abandon eBay in favor of reaching the prospective search engine surfing customer.

What these "search engine surfing" customers have discovered is that there is a veritable cornucopia of varied and unique merchandise to be found in online stores these days. Sure, everyone knows about the big online stores. Search engines like to call these stores "Anchor Stores", just like your local mall has it's anchor department store. Yet what online shoppers are discovering in ever-increasing numbers every day is that there are online boutiques that carry a variety of hand-picked, hard-to-find, indie brands and labels. The discovery of these treasure troves by the internet shopper appeals to their genetically programmed hunting and gathering impulse. Let's face it, hunting and gathering was how our species survived for millennia before civilization.

The whole world is at your fingertips when you shop online. This is not only a boon to the international shopping community but to people who live in small towns across the Unites States. Having lived in a small town for 4-5 years myself in Southern Oregon, I can vouch from personal experience that the selection of goods available, particularly unique, interesting merchandise was dismal. In fact, this was the time period in which I started my first e-commerce site. It was called Vintage Jones, as in "jonesin' for everything vintage". (Don't bother googling it, it doesn't exist any longer) My goal at that time was to serve up a charming and unique selection of vintage-inspired home décor, gifts and accessories. I've been hooked on e-commerce ever since.

There are several wonderful shopping sites out there on the web. Big sites, small sites, sites that cater to particular socio-cultural groups, i.e., the greasers, kustom kulture crowd (centered as they are around their built-from-the-ground-up hot rods), the vintage pinup crowd, the gothling crowd (our affectionate term for people of a goth persuasion), rockers, jocks, the artists, the hippies, the hipsters, the yipsters (a terminological hybrid of the the words, "Hipster" and Yuppie), the geeks, the nerds%u2026..Are you feeling like you are back in high school right about now?

The point is that there is a greater selection of "nuts and berries" from which to choose online for the shopper. And, in my opinion, the world is better place for it.

BGB ARTICLES: Savvy Shoppers Abandon Their Cars and "Park" Themselves in Front of Their Computers Instead

An Article by Tatyana Cathcart, Owner Babygirl Inc

Savvy Shoppers, the ones with both a discriminating eye and those who are price conscious, shop online these days. There are many reasons why a shopper will choose to "park" herself in front of her computer rather than brave the crowded parking lots of the nearby mall. But, according to Nielsen/NetRatings, Goldman, Sachs & Co. and Harris Interactive, the top reason is to avoid crowds, a reason cited by 38% of respondents in a recent study.

Case in point, I have a couple of lipstick colors that I repeatedly wear from my favorite cosmetic companies. And, my "nearby mall" is very nearby, just down the hill, only 2 minutes away. I decided last weekend that I could hop down to my preferred department store and replenish my lipsticks faster than I could buy them online. So, even though I am an avid online shopper I made the decision to hop in my car and brave the parking lots at the mall. BIG mistake. (*groan*)

First, it took me at least 7 turns through the parking lot before I found a spot. Finally, I spotted one and raced to get to it before some one else. I then had to schlepp a good distance in the rainy, cold Portland weather to get inside the store. Once I was inside my preferred department store, I discovered they were having a big "event" in the cosmetics department.

I stood at the counter for my favorite cosmetic line for about 20 minutes before someone recognized me. I, then, had to wait another 10 minutes while the associates rummaged through their stock looking for "my colors" and traded me off between employees who were busy serving several customers at once. At long last the stressed employee pops her head up from behind the counter and informs me they are out of stock of my lipstick colors. She tried to call my attention to the new "Spring Palette" so as not to lose a sale but I wasn't interested. I turned around and headed right back out of the store and into the cold, rainy weather and back across the football field-sized parking lot to my car, into which I hopped and proceeded to drive right back home in order to park myself in front of my computer and my favorite online cosmetics store.

I had to wait three days for my lipsticks to arrive on my doorstep but the ease and effortlessness of shopping from the comfort of my home in front of my computer was worth the wait a million times over when compared to the frustration of braving the crowds at my recent sojourn to the mall, only to be turned away empty handed, which brings me to the topic of part two of this article series on online shopping to be released next week - the wider selection of products available online for the savvy shopper!

BGB ARTICLES: Modern Day Pinup Girls Get Patriotic

The patriotic charm of pinup models posing in photos wearing sailor girl garb is not a new idea, but it has been embraced by a whole new generation of pinup models and photographers who are keeping the all American pinup sailor girl image alive.

The origins of pinup gals donning army duds can be traced to WWII, and the practice of GIs hanging pictures of sexy girls ("pinning them up") in their lockers to keep them company overseas, and painting them on the sides of their fighter planes. As a show of support, the models began dressing in patriotic sailor orarmy outfits. The creation of the USO in the forties saw the formation of the infamous camp shows, at which performers and sex symbols from Hollywood, such as Betty Grable, Rita Hayworth, and later, Marilyn Monroe, would make appearances to brighten the spirits of the troops. This tradition continues, and you can still find gorgeous gals in sailor suits singing and dancing and bringing a little fun to the fighting men and women of the US military.

Modern pinup girls might be edgier and have more tattoos than their predecessors, but they embrace the hair, makeup, and clothing styles of the forties and fifties. Most stay true to the "good girl" style of pose and dress in the tradition of early cheesecakepinup photography, just like the photos that hung in those GI's lockers. The idea behind traditional pinup modeling is not to be trashy or overly-provocative, but to embody a cute and sexy girl next door look. Add to it a sailor girl orarmy girl outfit and you've got something a GI from any generation would love. Contemporary fashion designers have rediscovered the sexy charm of the military-inspired looks of the forties and fiftiespinup culture, making it possible for models and photographers to continue to create patriotic imagery for our boys overseas with sailor girl suits, sailor dresses, shipmate costumes, first mate outfits, andarmy costumes.

These days, a patriotic show of support is important to a lot of Americans. With our country at war with two nations, many of our bravest and boldest have been deployed to dangerous and remote parts of the world.Pinup girls who want to show their support are sending photographs and calendars to troops fighting in foreign lands. One pinup model that sends frequent care packages to the troops often dresses up in sailor and army girl costumes and sends the photos to US army bases overseas. She has created a large and appreciative fan base and her donation operation has grown to be one of the largest of its kind created by apinup model.

The tradition of the American patriotic pinup model will never go out of style. As long as there is a soldier being deployed to distant, dangerous lands, a photo of a pinup girl in a cute sailor girl dress, smiling only to him and saluting his bravery, will always have a place%u2026 pinned up on his wall.

BGB ARTICLES: Art Tees Make a Statement

The t-shirt has a long and storied history beginning in the 19th century, where the early predecessor to the contemporary tee was worn primarily as a work garment by miners and other industrial workers whose work required ease of movement and materials that would keep them cool. The t-shirt soon evolved into an important part of American culture after the United States Navy issued t-shirts to all of its sailors for wear underneath their uniforms. They were practical garments for this purpose because they were easy to make, easy to clean, and lightweight.

But it wasn't until Marlon Brando donned his famously sexy, form-fitting t-shirt in the film A Streetcar Named Desire that the t-shirt became fashionable as a stand-alone, street wear garment. And there has been no stopping it since.

From the sixties on, the t-shirt became a way for the wearer to express his beliefs or share ideas with messages and statements emblazoned across his shirt. Bands and musicians embraced the t-shirt as an affordable means to promote their music and commemorate tours. Variations on the classic tee design appeared, including long-sleeved, sleeveless, and numerous types of collars such as v-neck and crew neck.

In the nineties, designers started creating t-shirt styles to flatter the female form and more variations followed, such as cap sleeves and form-fitting, long body cuts.

In the 21st century, the tee is still going strong. The latest trend in t-shirt fashion is the "art tee," a trendy and stylish way to combine original, designer art with the classic t-shirt.

Art tees often feature bold, outrageous, or artistic designs that are based on original artwork from painters, illustrators, tattoo artists, and more. Designers and artists use the t-shirt as a blank canvas upon which their art can be displayed. True designer t-shirts use the highest quality materials and state-of-the-art printing or silk-screening techniques to ensure the shirt will last and the image will stay vivid. It's not uncommon for the fabric to be treated to appear soft and worn, like a vintage tee. Oftentimes the design will fill the entire space, rather than the traditional printed tee which only features artwork in the middle of the chest or back. Art tees can feature silk-screening that extends to the sleeves, collar, and around the back of the shirt.

Typically, a print house or manufacturer will strike a deal with an artist and produce a series of tees featuring that artist's designs. Sometimes they will be limited edition. The cost will probably be more than the average t-shirt, but paying for quality and supporting alternative artists and print houses is worth it.

Nowadays, with over 2 billion t-shirts being sold world-wide per year, and chain stores such as Old Navy and Wal-Mart having a wide variety of inexpensive graphic tees, it's becoming more difficult to find tees that stand out from the crowd. High quality art and designer t-shirts make a unique statement and say a lot more about the wearer than a generic, mass-produced shirt.

Bring out your funky, artsy side with a unique designer art tee such as those available at BabygirlBoutique.com, featuring tattoo, alternative, and pinup-inspired art tees.
