What should I think about when choosing a jogging stroller for my baby (and myself)?

Here are some ideas to get the juices flowing (readers - feel free to comment with YOUR ideas!)

1.) Where will you use it? (road, beach, trail, park, sidewalk, mall)
2.) How old is your baby? Can they handle it?
3.) Do you have a "normal" stroller or will this be your only stroller?
4.) What is your budget?
5.) How many kids - how long do you plan to use the stroller? What type of warranty does this stroller have?
6.) How well does the jogging stroller maneuver?
7.) Does it rain where I live and will I use this in the rain?
8.) Am I able to assemble this stroller myself?
9.) What type of safety mechanism or rating does this stroller have?
10.) How tall am I compared to the stroller?
11.) Do I need to take this stroller in the car or travel with it - does it fit in my car?
12.) Will I attach this stroller to a bike (for pulling)?

InStep Suburban Swivel Wheel Jogging Stroller

This is a single jogging stroller with a 12-inch front wheel - and large rear wheels. The cabin includes a reclining seat pad and child's tray.

The stroller does have under-seat storage - 41 x 51 x 23.5 inches (W x H x D); weighs 28 pounds

the stroller does not stand on its own when folded (but it stays closed)
The tray in front of the seat pulls completely out, but I would prefer it to swing open instead. This also is compatible with an infant car seat adapter - but the graco car seat fits into this without an adapter.

BOB Ironman Sport Utility Stroller

If you are a serious runner - this is the stroller for you. It has an exceptionally stable frame, a fixed front wheel and handles all terrain well - though preferably this is meant for smoother faster surfaces.

This stroller has has an large sunshade and excellent padding. As far as the feature list -
the Bob Ironman Sport Utility Stroller also features a quick 2-step folding system and a hand-activated front break.

Simply better designed - that's the consensus on this bab jogging stroller.

Schwinn Free Wheeler Jogging Stroller

The Schwinn Free Wheeler Jogging Stroller is a very popular jogging stroller model - and is generally well liked. There are a few common complains - we'll get to those. First - the basics!

This stroller has a 12-inch front swivel wheel and 2 16-inch rear wheels, and comes with a parent tray for your keys, phone, and a drink. The handle bar height is adjustable which is well appreciated. There is also a child tray - and the stroller can take childen to 38 inches in height- and fifty pounds in weight. There is a five-point harness, tether, parking break, and this baby jogging stroller does have ASTM certification. (Note: ASTM is a company that defines standards for different products - including baby products)

The Schwinn Free Wheeler Jogging Stroller - and its a common trend with baby jogging strollers - is very easy to turn - even with one hand. The ride is very smooth and the stroller is not too heavy (though the BOB stroller is lighter).

Feature-wise - the canopy was appreciated, and can be detached at the top so there is some more flexibility as to blocking the sun during sunset/sunrise.

As far as common points of criticism for this stroller - the main one was seat adjustibility. There are two points here - some people have trouble adjusting the stroller seat incline (the angle). The second is that the seat is too deep - meaning the seat back is too far back.

As to the seat incline - the stroller seat angle IS adjustable - from an almost flat position to around 75 degrees. Some people though have had trouble adjusting the seat. In fact, the seat angle can be adjusted by adjusting the pull straps in the back of the seat. A reviewer from Amazon says, "the key is to adjust the seat BEFORE you put baby in, that way you can easily move the toggle strap all the way up, otherwise the weight of the baby on the back of the seat makes it hard to move toggle strap up. It is no problem though, to move seat down after baby is in seat."

As to the seat depth - this is actually the biggest physical problem I think. The company does sell extra padding to bring the seat back closer - others are using folded towels to handle this problem.

The other issue with common consensus was that the parent drink tray is shallow.

There are some disagreements among users as to the foldability and transportability of this baby jogging stroller - some users say it is extremely easy to folder - and others say that the 1-hand folding capability is "overstated" - to put it nicely!

As far as fitting this stroller in the back of a car - it seems to take a mid-size sedan's trunk to fit this in - with wheel removal.

Now I know I have given several criticisms - but this is a highly rated stroller. It does what it says - it is of good quality and comes with standard features that some more expensive strollers have as accessories.

BOB - Revolution Duallie Double Jogging Stroller

This double jogging stroller is very highly rated - excellent reviews from owners. This is the double jogging stroller to get - if you have the budget ($550+ in Sep 2009). There are more expensive double jogging strollers - this one looks to be at the sweet spot of price and quality (we call it value!)

The BOB - Revolution Duallie Double jogging strolleris very easy to push - considering that you will be having at least 40 pounds of your children's weight - and the stroller itself weighs around 30lbs. The BOB Duallie can fit through standard doors and can be turned with one hand. In fact, this stroller is so maneuverable that it can turn circles on itself. In addition, when one child is sitting in the stroller - the stroller will still stay the straight and narrow - no veering to one side!

The ride is extremely smooth, and the kids can recline fully in it.

The BOB - Revolution Duallie Double jogging stroller does fold - the wheels may need to be taken off for tight spaces, but they are easy to take the wheels on and off. The shoulder straps are easy to adjust and padded.
As far as criticisms - the stroller does have a parking brake - but no handbrake.
Some consumers have also wished that the storage space under the stroller was larger - as it is, this it will fit a medium sized diaper bag. If you are thinking about this for younger kids - this does have an infant car seat adapter which would be worth looking at.
