Introduction to Baby Knitting Patterns and Baby Crochet Patterns
Some people might decide to specialize in what they knit or crochet. A very popular category is baby knitting patterns. Some people might argue that it is not enough of a challenge, but for others it may be ideal because of time constraints. Remember that you can start with smaller items like booties and eventually start a bigger project, while still using baby knitting patterns. You might then decide that you want to do a whole outfit or maybe get a hold of some baby quilt patterns and do that. Whatever you choose, the possibilities are endless.
Knitting Baby Patterns - Is It A Hobby?
Well, baby knitting patterns is actually a cheap and soothing hobby. It really is an inexpensive way to provide a newborn, baby and child with beautifull knitted clothes and accessories, including blankets, booties, hats and bibs.A new mom might actually ask if it's best or necessary to knit her baby's clothes and the answer would have to be a big NO. It's not necessary to knit at all. There are so many cheap imported baby clothes and accessories made by modern machines that it actually isn't necessary to knit at all. But, if you are a die hard knitting fan, then just the thought of not having yarn and knitting needles to make some beautiful clothes would really make you anxious. The click of the needles are soothing to the veteran knitter and it brings peace into an otherwise hectic lifestyle.
The purpose of the resources on this page is to share some free baby knitting patterns to the modern day mom. You will feal a sense of pride and accomplisment when you finish your first project and it's just a great way to stay relaxed.
How Simple Are Baby Knitting Patterns
Well, this is actually a very easy question to answer. They are as simple as you make them. It is all up to you. Baby knitting patterns can also be very complex. The choice is really yours. Now, what do I mean by this, you might ask? Baby knitting patterns are very small and you can really get the job done quickly compared to adult knitting patterns. If you choose a simple pattern with not a lot of detail and not a lot of colours, then the job is simple.Remember that you will complete the baby knitting patterns almost four times faster than you would an adult knitting pattern with the same complexity. I mean, a baby knitting pattern might have 3000 stitches to complete whereby an adult knitting pattern probably has more in the region of about 12000 - 16000 stitches to complete. See, it is a smaller job, but the complexity of the project alone is all up to you.
If you've never knitted before and you complete your first project, you will be so full of confidence that you can't wait to start your second project right away. The difference with an adult and baby knitting patterns is that you can complete about 4 baby knitting patterns in the same time than you would complete one adult knitting pattern. You will have 4 more finished projects in the same time frame and your confidence would really then hit the ceiling to try out more complex baby knitting patterns.
You might want to try baby crochet patterns once you are really confident with your knitting. This is a whole different skill altogether, but also really fun to do. You can start off with the same type of logic mentioned above and the same type of logic would prevail. You can make this as complex or simple as you want to, but bear in mind that you would be able to complete at least 4 more projects if you do baby crochet patterns compared to adult crochet patterns.
Well, there you have it. It all boils down to you and what you are prepared to do. Enjoy your hobby.
Beginning To Knit
Here are all the basics you need to know to learn how to knit. I will tell you everything from casting on, knitting, purl and binding off and tell you what the basic tools are that you need for your first project.
Casting On
Casting on is the very first step you have to take to start any project, no matter how simple or complicated your projects are. You need to know the cast on. A simple way of explaining casting on is by telling you it's just the way to get your stitches onto your needle so that you can actually start knitting. There are quite a few ways to get the stitches on the needles. Every knitter have his or her own favourite method and it all depends on you which one you choose. If you're reading this and haven't knitted before, then you've come to the right place. If you have knitted before, then you'll find more information about different methods right here.
If you are new to knitting you will be happy to note that you only have to learn two main types of cast on methods. These methods are very useful and very easy to learn. It's called the knitted cast on and the long-tail cast on. I will be explaining the knitted cast on in this article.
I first have to explain to you what slip knot is before we can go any further. You have to hold the yarn so that the tail of the yarn ball is hanging in front of your hand. Using your left hand, wrap the yarn loosely behind your first two fingers so that it loops around your fingers in a clockwise fashion. The part of the yarn that's attached to the ball should be slipped back under the loop behind your fingers.
You then have to pull this off your fingers and tighten slightly. After you've done this, you can slip the needle in the front of the loop. Lift up the needle and pull the end of the thread to tighten the knot. The slip knot will actually become your first stitch.
Knitted Cast On Method
Now that we've learnt the how and what a slip knot is and how to put the needle in, I can start showing you the knitted cast on method. This is a great method to know, because once you actually know this, you know how to knit.
Now, holding the needle with the slip knot stitch in your left hand, you can push the right hand needle through the front of the loop. How you hold these needles are a matter of personal preference. This is called opening the loop, because your leaving the loop open for the next stitch.
Now, the second step is to loop the yarn that's attached to the ball over the point of the right-hand needle going counter clockwise. You should hold the yarn loosely in your right hand while doing this. You should not loop the yarn over both needles and you shouldn't pull too tightly otherwise your stitches will be difficult to work with. You must however keep your stitches tight enough to keep in on the needle. As you become more experienced you'll learn what feels like the right amount of tension.
The following step is the only tricky part in this whole method and with knitting in general. You have to slide the right hand needle out from behind the left hand needle while keeping the loop you just made with the right hand needle. You should keep holding onto the yarn with your right hand. Take the right hand needle and slide it down slowly so the loop gets as close as possible to the tip of the needle, but doesn't slide off. While doing this, the right hand needle will come out from behind the left hand needle. When it just comes from the left hand needle, you should give the right hand needle a gentle push with your left index finger getting the needle in front of your left hand needle.
Now you have to slide the loop on the right hand needle onto the left hand needle above the slip knot loop. If everything went to plan, then you should now have two stitches on your left hand needle. All other steps are the same. If you have to cast 17 stitches, you just have to repeat this whole process 17 times.

What To Do With Finished Projects
If you decide to sell it, you can sell it conveniently online. There are a lot of online stores that would sell these products for you (for a commission). You can also go to a flea market and sell it there or maybe have a garage sale. The possibilities to sell these items are endless.
You don't have to go that route though. You can give it away if that's what you want to do. If you don't have a baby, you could give it to your grandchild or to a friend who's got a baby. You can even keep it for yourself if you're planning to have a baby. There's so many people that actually might take these of your hands. You just have to decide who to give it to.
You can even give it away to charity. There's many charity organizations out there in need of clothes and toys. You can call them up and make a donation. I'm sure there's plenty of children out there that would just love to have some warm clothes or a big pillow, a blanket or some knitted toys that you might produce.
There's no end to what you can really do with these knitted projects. You just have to let your imagination go and decide what you want to do.

- Good start. I love the idea that you are presenting useful information rather than just outside resources. I don't knit, my only trek into the knitting world was to try to knit a scarf, which kept rolling up into a tube! I have done a good deal of embroidery though. Thanks for the info.
