Baby Activities From Prenatal To 36 Months
Before your baby is born, you can begin to introduce him/her to many beautiful aspects of art, creativity, and self nurturing. This lens will show you why, how, and when to introduce each new area of creativity. You can begin now...and practice these great techniques all through childhood. This lens will focus on activities for prenatal and up to three years old.

Even Before Your Baby Is Born
*Prenatal babies are perhaps more intuitive than newborns are. Part of the reason is that they have acclimated to their environment by the time they are listening to the world outside the womb. A new born will have so many new stimuli to become familiar with, they will take a 'break' from intuitive senses while they practice sight, smell, enhanced hearing, and the combinations of touch with these new senses will take some time for them to understand. It is a joyful time...and a busy time having a newborn. So...by starting some of these activities before your baby is born, you will have allowed your child to bring another aspect of their pre-birth experience into the world with them.
The first activity is reading. Yes. Read to your prenatal child every day. Find fun and energy filled quality literature to read and create a space and time that is consistent to what it will be like after the baby is born. Perhaps start a bedtime story time? Then after birth, you will have already established 'bedtime' and you will have introduced your child to the 'custom' of reading a bedtime story.
It can be short...a few pages from a children's book or a paragraph or two from any book you choose to read to your child.
Another activity is Music. Introduce your prenatal child to music that is in harmony with you and your life. Listen to something that you both would enjoy even after birth. A great time for music may be after breakfast in the morning. Play it at a volume that is comfortable for you. Sing along or hum if you like. No need to turn it up 'loud' because your baby can 'feel' the music before she is born.
Continue this music time well into your Childs school time years. After your child starts school you can have 'music time' on Saturday mornings and holidays.

Your Baby Can Read
If you've been around any new parents these days, it seems many are talking about the Your Baby Can Read program. Developed by Dr. Robert Titzer for his own daughter, this award winning series of DVD's and complimentary visual aides has taken the world by storm.
This Early Language Development System incorporates multi-sensory learning techniques. A baby's brain thrives on stimulation and develops at a phenomenal pace...nearly 90% during the first five years of life! The best and easiest time to learn a language is during the infant and toddler years...when the brain is creating thousands of synapses, or connections, allowing a child to learn both the written word and spoken word simultaneously. ** Author's Note: We purchased the original set for our daughter for her first birthday. She loves watching the DVDs' and playing with the slide cards, her vocabulary amazes us still, and she loves the sing along songs. She can recognize many of the words even though we do not use the program on a regular set routine.
When she is 'in the mood' she actually asks to 'watch my words' and we put on one of the DVD's or pull out the flip books and have a little learning fun. I was skeptical about the program and its affecting her 'play' time - but she dictates the schedule and I never 'force feed' the program on her.
I waffled on buying this program because part of me felt it was 'too much - too soon" to teach a baby to read. But, in the end I decided to go for it because in today's society, offering our children opportunities to stay up to date with the learning curve is important so that they are not left behind other children who have been exposed to such learning opportunities.

We Had Musical Instruments in the House
I played my guitar and sang to my children. There was always live music in the house and also musical tools for them to play with. Everything from the simplest empty coffee can filled with a marble or two (sealed tight-I used duct tape back then). And we also had things to drum on. Even a wooden spoon and a sauce pan makes a great drum.
I would sing to them all the time. Even before they were born. I found out a lot about my children before they were born based on reactions to music and other things. It isn't difficult to tune in to a child's likes and dislikes even before they are born with a little practice. On occasion, they might even tell me when they didn't like what I had eaten that day.
Books and music are the easiest ways to connect with prenatal children, and as I mentioned before, these activities help the newborn to connect after birth as more familiar things are in the environment.
