Decorate a Nursery

If you choose a theme you can find many items that go together but it will probably cost you far more. A lot of stores, catalogs and online sites have lots of theme rooms that you can check out. You can find themes like animals, cartoon characters, or themes like sports, cars, princess, Noah's Ark or others.

A great theme and easy to build on are crayons. You can use hand stencils, draw your own crayons and use lots and lots of colors.

Jungle themes can be fun and you can use lots of different animals, real or fake trees and plants and find lots of items like animal print rugs, curtains and bedding. Wicker items go great in a jungle theme room. Girls like themes such as the beach which also can meld with wicker and lots of soft summer colors. Speaking of wicker, have you ever seen those huge oblong wicker chests. Well let me tell you that they make a really good toy box. If the lid falls it won't hurt a child and they hold an immense amount of toys. Tall wicker display shelves make great kids book cases.

If you go without the theme, a pretty room can be accomplished with stripes. Go to waist high with a solid color such as a green then tape off stripes about 8 to 10 inches wide all around the room and alternate with another shade of green and an even lighter shade of green. Painting a room can be changed much easier as the child grows than taking wall paper off and re-papering.

Some different kinds of decorations can be accomplished easily. Take a section of wooden lattice or one of those "Y" shaped wooden pieces that roses climb on, add some cup hooks and hang on the wall of a child's room. This can hold hats, sweaters, even play jewelry or stuffed animals. Birdhouses painted with bright colors and set on a shelf can add charm to any room. Throw pillows in different colors and shapes are abundant, and look great scattered around a child's room.
A large country size, brightly colored, mailbox can become a special holding place for a child's favorite toys and add something unusual to a room.
