Baby Whisperer Parenting
When I had my children, I did not know when babies needed to sleep, or how long they should sleep, how they should get to sleep, and on and on and on.
I read many books trying to find a nice delicate balance between coddling my children and teaching them independence. The only book that I read that I agreed with 100% was the Baby Whisperer by Tracy Hogg. I would like to share that experience with you.
Baby Whisperer: A gentle way to help your baby sleep
Anyone can do it

When I was a brand new mom, I struggled with helping my baby nap. I didn't know what I was supposed to do, I didn't know when he should be napping, I didn't know anything. I tried to follow my baby and let him nap when he wanted to, but I was very unsuccessful. This lead to many awake nights for all of us.
What I realize now is that I didn't know how to really read my babies cues. I didn't know that he should be napping regularly for an hour and a half a few times a day. When my son was 3 months old I borrowed a book from the library called The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems by Tracy Hogg. It was the beginning of a new baby and a new mom.
Tracy Hogg promotes EASY. This is an acronym for
EAT
ACTIVITY
SLEEP
YOU (Time for you)
And it really is as easy as it sounds. As long as you follow these steps in this very order, you will have great success at helping your baby sleep.
Another important philosophy is the Pat/Shh. Many moms will know what I'm talking about without having a name attached to the action. This is when a baby is laying down and you pat them while saying shhh near their ear. It is very calming for babies and they quickly allow the rhythm to take them the lala land.
When I child is a bit older (9 months on) you can then try a new method to help them sleep called Pick Up/Put Down. When you go into the room, you gently place the baby back down in the crib and repeat as necessary. The child may scream and protest, but this very action teaches them that mom and dad are here for me if I need them, and they are meeting my needs, but they are not giving up. They are serious about me sleeping.
Tracy Hogg teaches you that you are able to have a child and still have a flexible routine that allows you to continue life similar to before you had your little one. I really wish I had found this book before I had my first little one, but I was able to implement it straight from the beginning with my second child. The difference in my ability to parent is remarkable.
I now own all three of her books and use every opportunity I have to introduce others to this wonderful philosophy. Sadly Tracy Hogg has passed, but her spirit lives on in all of us Baby Whisperers.
