Meet Alternative Therapies for Animals!

So instead of writing about one animal, this SquidPaw is dedicated to all animals and in particular to the use of alternative therapies in daily care for our pets .

As an equine body worker I have branched out and studied many different "alternative" therapies like Reiki, aromatherapy and Bach Flower Remedies and what I learned from all of them is just how wonderful it is to use them and work with animals to improve their life.

My Favorite Things to do with Alternative Therapies for Animals?

Like I said in the intro, I love working with animals and especially love working with all sorts of alternative therapies. The reason for this is that when trying to apply alternative therapies a lot of love goes in and a lot of time and focus. And many times it feels that this is exactly where the answer lies.

Focusing on your animal, spending time with him or her and actually feeling them can in many cases greatly improve their well-being, your understanding of them and the bond you have together.

This was the first book I got on Bach Flower Remedies for Animals and it is written by Stefan Ball and Judy Howard, THE Bach Flower Remedy experts and working closely with the official Dr. Bach Center in the UK. This book is very useful and explains the remedies in detail, giving many examples and situation one could use them to help animals. The many showcases are perfect to learn and get an idea of which remedies to choose from.

This book by Catherine Bird is not just about Bach Flower Remedies but about several different therapies any horse owner should become familiar with. I studied aromatherapy with Catherine and assisted in an aromatherapy workshop and felt this woman knows what she is talking about. Her book shows great love and understanding of horses and many of the examples given in the book can easily be translated to other animals.
