Fashion And Personal Expression

We use various ways to present ourselves. We use words and symbols to communicate. We have signals and gestures to help articulate ourselves. We use fashion to tell the world what we want to say. Whether we think about it, or not, when we put on our clothes for the day, we're setting our image for the day. This is why it is so interesting to observe people's back to school fashion preferences. Back to school fashion preference may show someone's personality for the whole term.

Same Old fashions

Some people will wear practically the same thing they did in the previous term. This may be a bad thing since this could indicate little to no personal growth in the past term. It may indicate that a person did not have any personal growth in the past year. What could make this worse is if that person has been wearing the same fashion for several years, it could indicate a severe problem.

It could also be a positive thing. It may be that the person has matured enough to have found his or her identity in life. This type of back to school fashion could indicate that a person is already perfectly happy with the image that he or she presents and that they feel no urge to change. It could also show that the person has had a great past year and wants to relive it.

New And Exciting Fashions

There are people who exhibit great changes in their back to school fashion. There is also a good side and a bad side to this. The positive way to look at this is that the person has experienced an epiphany or positive life changing experience. A change in back to school fashion could indicate that a person has reached a new level of maturity and is ready to face the world with a new found joy for life or positive attitude.

There can also be a dark side to this change in fashion. A person could have suffered from an event so terrible that it requires the person to reject his or her old personality entirely. A drastic change in back to school fashion could mean that a person is seeking to distance his or herself from something that hurt them deeply. What we need to understand, is that not all changes are good and not all changes are bad.

Go With The Flow

Finally, there are some who base their back to school fashion on what a certain group is wearing. On the plus side this can indicate social acceptance. A person who makes fashion decisions this way shows that he or she is sociable and knows how to make friends. However, this could also indicate of a lack of initiative. People who dress the way others do may do so because they don't have any idea of what they should wear to express their individuality. They let the group they belong to decide their fashion because without the group, they really have no idea who they are.

Observing back to school fashion can tell you a great deal about what's happening in someone's life, but also, you are able to use fashion to tell others about yourself.

I am a tee shirt and sweat pants kinda gal, unless I have to dress up. And since my dog ate all of my high heels, I haven't worn them, probably 11 years, or so!!

Fun lens!!

I surely remember those Catholic school uniforms and how hot they were being wool. And, they were red, black, gray plaid -- something I hear is back in fashion these days for back to school.

Very unique lens. I would have never thought of this, and when I happened upon it, I just had to check it out! Great perspective and 5 stars

My girls are little fashion plates. For the teen, if it's not in, it's out of her closet. The little one is coached by the teen on what to wear and when. Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa, I don't have to do much shopping for either of them. Nice job!

This is a great lens.

I'm afraid I never understood the concept of *school fashions*...uhm... I didn't go to school, so that may have something to do with it, but anyways, I look at school fashions and ask myself *Why are these people worried about cloths?* They are going to school to learn not look good, or did I miss the point of school? I don't know, maybe I'm too much of a book worm, but I just don't get the whole *school fashion* movement.

I do agree that like you say, fashion shows a persons personality. Cloths do effect how others see you and what they think of a person and how they *think* you are, wither what they think is right or wrong, they are going to think it anyways, based on what you wear.

I think, that people should just wear what they like, because it makes them happy and is comfortable to wear. Too many people wear cloths to look good first and sacrifice comfort, when they should put comfort first.

Good idea for a lens. One thing that I thought about whilst reading was that some may not have any choice over changing due to the family financially situation. Younger children rely on parents to provide their uniform and have no input over styles. 5 *

I used to work at an elementary school a while ago. I always enjoyed seeing the children coming to school on that first day after the summer vacation. Scrubbed and polished, most of them were. Although the styles are a bit different now, there are still many children who don't go to extremes and I applaud them. Great lens. 5 stars. favored, fan and lensrolled.

I live in tees and jeans, but love a vintage dress for church. I loved the pattern books in high school home ec classes. Love to make my own dresses.
