Background Check Your Childminder - Be Safe

What do you have in your life that you would put the highest value on?

Your Children

If that wasn't your answer, it really should have been.

My story starts back in the spring of 2007, my sister decided that she needed to go back to work to increase the family income. The only problem was, we don't live close enough to look after each others kids on a daily basis.

This meant that she needed to look into childcare. Her daughter was 2 years old at the time and the most beautiful little girl you have ever seen.
My sister went through the proper channels when she was looking for a childminder, she contacted an agency and interviewed the prospective carers at her home to see how they interacted with her daughter, and how her daughter reacted to them too.

After a few applicants, she interviewed a 42 year old woman, who seemed to fit the position perfectly, even her daughter was quite playful with her. The woman produced all of the relevant paperwork at the interview and answered the questions perfectly.

In fact when my sister rang me she said that the woman was so good that she reminded her of our mother, this was the highest praise that anyone could be given.

My sister started to get everything else in order for her return to work, including a full day's shopping spree for clothes and shoes. With only 2 weeks until she started her job my brother-in-law asked her to arrange another interview so that he could meet the new child minder.

They all met over coffee while my husband and I watched their daughter, when they got back from the second interview things didn't seem quite right between them. I asked if there was anything wrong but didn't get a reply. This treatment wasn't unusual because my sister is a very headstrong woman and her husband is the methodical one who likes to make sure each and every detail had been double checked.

My sister phoned me the next day to apologize for her mood the day before and told me what had gone on that day. It seemed as though her husband was not very comfortable around the new child minder for reasons even he didn't understand.

Background Check Your Childminder Every Time

My sister told me that a couple of the phone numbers on the childminders resume were no longer valid and wondered what she should do about it, so I told her to go and visit her former employers, after all if you give someone a reference you expect to be contacted by future employers.

At a dinner party that weekend the subject was brought up at the dinner table, one of her husbands colleagues had brought his fiancé who worked at the local elementary school, she suggested running a background check on the childminder.

To be honest we all started to laugh and asked her if she knew a private investigator who would work for free. She told us that one of the mothers at school had also been in the same position and she did the background check her self, through the internet.

Before we had even had dessert, she had found the website service which contains the government records to conduct background checks, we were all amazed, we had no idea that such a service existed.

The prospective childminder was an ex-convict with a record for drug use and assault and the reason that the phone numbers didn't check out was because they belonged to two criminals who were sentenced to 5 years imprisonment for attempted armed robbery.

I shudder every time I think of what could have happened each day while my sister was at work - this site is fantastic - Click Here
