Background Music Of My Life

I have gone through life hearing music at critical times and it has helped. I will explain. It doesn't matter where I was, or what I was doing, music seemed to accompany me on my journeys. I don't mean the stuff you get from the radio or youtube. I mean that music that plays in my head over and over again. The music is what I have been hearing my whole life written and performed by the great artists of my time and times before my existence. I hope I keep hearing them sing for the rest of my life.

"Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, how do you measure a year of your life? In daylights and sunsets and cups of coffee, how do you measure a year of your life... Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, how do you measure a year of your life, in laughter and"... This is a song that frequently plays in my head. I measure years of my life through music among other things. This is about the music that has been the background to my life. I don't know where it came from, and I am sure it only has meaning for me.

I simply want to share what it was like growing and getting older with music as a constant companion. When I felt I was 'down for the count', the music in my mind helped me to keep going. In this decade, I realize we have lost some of the great musical genius that fueled the music of my mind, and I am saddened. I have hopes for the new crop of artists that are making some really good music, after all my son plays violin, (mostly classical music) and he loves it, so he'll only get better! Take a look here and try to remember if music helped in your life by being the background to your comings and goings.

The Way Nature Planned It

Baby, don't fight it
I'm comin' baby
Do you know how long I'm dreamin'
of a reason it grows?
You may ask me all these questions
But darling, no one knows

It should be clear, I really love you
Don't ask me why, I just do
Do you ask the Lord who loves you
Why He makes the sky clear blue?

It's the way, it's the way nature planned it
We were meant, we were meant to stay together
I tell you it's the way nature planned it
Oh, don/'t ask me how long I'll love you
When you're gone, my heart aches
I'll never, never leave you
All my life, for you I'd wait 'cause it's the way nature planned it...

This was one of the background songs of my life (performed and written by the Four Tops,) and I heard it often. After all I've been married three times:) and I know a thing or two about relationships (or I don't) and I know how one feels when a new one is starting.
The point is the songs that passed through my mind gave me good heartfelt feelings and helped me to keep going. When I was feeling really bad the background music of my life kept me going. How about this, when I felt the environment was being destroyed by our bad habits, this is what I heard...

Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)

Whoa ah, ah mercy, mercy, me
ah things ain't what they used to be no no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the north and south and east,
Ah mercy, mercy me
Ah, things ain't what they used to be,
Oil wasted on our oceans and upon our seas
Fish full of mercury
Ah mercy, mercy, me
Ah things ain't what they used to be,
Radiation underground and in the sky,
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Ah mercy, mercy me
Ah things ain't what they used to be,
what about this overcrowded land,
How much more abuse from man can she stand...

Marvin Gaye wrote these lyrics back in the 1970's and they are more relevant today than they were then. He must have been in tune with something that gave him insight into what we were doing to our environment. They were in my mind when I decided to fight to save our environment. I have pages that speak to this subject, and I am amazed at the timing of this song. Marvin was a genius, he really did get our attention with this one! Music is a catalyst as far as I am concerned and I wish I could give you lyrics to all the music that has been a part of my background music. Maybe I will in the future, keep looking here in this place, and I'll update this information frequently.

Peace Train
Now I've been happy lately
Thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be,
something good has begun
I've been smiling lately
dreaming about the world as one
and I believe it could be
something good's bound to come
For out on the edge of darkness
there runs a peace train
oh peace train take this country
come bring me home again
Peace train sounding louder
Ride on the peace train
hoo-ah-eeh-ahh-hoo-ah
Come on the peace train
Get your bags together
Go bring your good friends too
Cause it's getting nearer
Soon it will be with you
Come and join the living
It's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer
It soon will all be true
Peace train sounding louder
Ride on the peace train
hoo-ah-eeh-ahh-hoo-ah
Come on the peace train
I've been crying lately
thinking about ther world as it is
why must we go on hating
why can't we live in bliss
For out on the edge of darkness
there runs a peace train
oh peace train take this country
come bring me home again
Peace train sounding louder
Ride on the peace train
hoo-ah-eeh-ahh-hoo-ah
Come on the peace train
Come on Peace train yeah, yes it's the peace train

The song above soothed me before I had to go to Vietnam, oh boy! (Performed and written by Cat Stevens)

The Beatles Hey Jude

Hey ey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

Hey Jude don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better

And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder

(chorus)

Hey Jude don't let me down
You have found her now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

So let it out and let it in
Hey Jude begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you
Hey Jude you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder

(chorus)

Hey Jude don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it better.

This is one of the songs that sustained me four decades ago! Performed and written by The Beatles

Vide Cor Meum

And thinking of her
Sweet sleep overcame me
I am your master
See your heart
And of this burning heart
Your heart
She trembling
Humbly eats
Weeping I saw him then depart from me
Joy is converted
To bitterest tears
To bitterest tears
I am in peace
See my heart

This is "Vide Cor Meum", which means 'see my heart' in Latin, it is an aria that was being performed in the movie Hannibal, and he had gone to attend the opera. It is one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever heard. Order it from iTunes, it is worth the ninety nine cents, as it imparts a kind of peace to your soul as you listen to the piece. See my heart, I think of this and I feel overwhelmed by emotion. This is an aria that imparts a good yet melancholy feeling to your soul!

Dancing In The Moonlight

We get it on most every night
When that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Everybody here is out of sight
They don't bark and they don't bite
They keep things loose, they keep it tight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
We like our fun and we never fight
You can't dance and stay uptight
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody was dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
We get it on most every night
And when that moon is big and bright
It's a supernatural delight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight
Dancing in the moonlight
Everybody's feeling warm and bright
It's such a fine and natural sight
Everybody's dancing in the moonlight

This is a song from back in my youth and just thinking of it makes me want to dance. (sometimes I do!) You can listen to it on this lens for 99 cents, if it doesn't bring you a smile then drop me a note and I'll give your 99 cents back. Look at the words, "you can't dance and stay uptight". You cannot be angry and dance, dancing is exhilarating and it gives you a reason to be. Dance everyday in your living room and you'll know what I mean by this. Performed and written by Looking Glass.

What Is Music Anyway?

This is an encyclopedia definition of music, from Wikipedia.

type=text

The picture shown above is an ancient music lesson.

Music is an art form whose medium is sound. Common elements of music are pitch (which governs melody and harmony), rhythm (and its associated concepts tempo, meter, and articulation), dynamics, and the sonic qualities of timbre and texture. The word derives from Greek (mousike), "(art) of the Muses."

The creation, performance, significance, and even the definition of music vary according to culture and social context. Music ranges from strictly organized compositions (and their recreation in performance), through improvisational music to aleatoric forms. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres, although the dividing lines and relationships between music genres are often subtle, sometimes open to individual interpretation, and occasionally controversial. Within "the arts," music may be classified as a performing art, a fine art, and auditory art. There is also a strong connection between music and mathematics.

To many people in many cultures music is an important part of their way of life. Greek philosophers and ancient Indian philosophers defined music as tones ordered horizontally as melodies and vertically as harmonies. Common sayings such as "the harmony of the spheres" and "it is music to my ears" point to the notion that music is often ordered and pleasant to listen to. However, 20th-century composer John Cage thought that any sound can be music, saying, for example, "There is no noise, only sound." Musicologist Jean-Jacques Nattiez summarizes the relativist, post-modern viewpoint: "The border between music and noise is always culturally defined-which implies that, even within a single society, this border does not always pass through the same place; in short, there is rarely a consensus ... By all accounts there is no single and intercultural universal concept defining what music might be."

Now you know what music is all about, so I hope it helps you make sense of this page!

This is not a critique of any one particular kind of music. The music of my mind took on many forms. I truly love all kinds of music and as a result I hear music of all types playing on the jukebox of my mind. So be it classical, jazz, blues, hiphop, country or any genre, I embrace them all as background music that my life is played out to the tune of. Music is the one thing that I think all of mankind can embrace as a common interest. Keep listening, your life will be better for it!

So true! I often have particular songs or just the tune, running through my mind. Music, often unexpected, has changed my life, my mind and my feelings. Thanx for reminding me... time for some Ella....

A lot of Beatles songs are stories of my life, especially the love ones. Classical music is great too, when you interpret it as emotions and how they fit in with moments of your life.

Music is a phenomenal tool that has helped me in many ways. It's soothing, relaxing, and just great to unwind. But most of all, I've enjoyed it when using it to praise and glorify the Lord in faith. Whether it's praising Him or simply being thankful for His grace moment. Though, I must say that I do have a varied taste in music and it has changed overtime.
