Experienced backpackers normally don't carry a sleeping bag at all. They either carry a sleeping mat of use the sleeping bag liner in place of the large and heavy sleep sleeping bags. But with the shrinking of the backpacking equipment, the backpack too was redesigned. Other traditional backpacking equipment may include a stove to cook on. But the backpackers of today prefer not to use a stove, instead use dehydrated ready to eat food.
