Causes Of Back Pain

About 80% of all adults suffer from a painful back at one time in their life. Usually rest will bring relief, a massage can do wonders and there are some easy back pain exercises that can be of great help.

In most cases, the cause of back pain is muscle strain, injury or overuse of the back. In these situations once the acute pain has healed, you should begin a program of exercises that will strengthen the muscles of the core and support the lower back.

Exercise Regularly For Pain Relief

There are many different types of lower back pain exercises. Trying a variety of these will strengthen the entire body, including the lower back area.

Regularly performing back pain exercises will help rebalance your muscles and alleviate your pain. Proper stretching will also help in strengthening your abs and making your back muscles stronger.

A stronger core improves support for your spine and will help you to keep the right posture and bring you more comfort.

Aerobic Activity

Aerobic activity does not just make a good lower back pain exercise; it will strengthen the rest of your body as well. Aerobic exercise is a key in maintaining a healthy weight, which will reduce the strain on the lower back as well. It will also keep your heart and cardiovascular system healthy.

To reduce the strain on the lower back, begin with a program of daily walking that is low impact. You can start with a short amount of time, and gradually increase the time spent as you get used to the workout. Another good type of aerobic activity that is gentle on the lower back is the reclining bike which does not put any strain on your back.

Strengthening

It is important to keep the muscles of the core strong and conditioned. Most of us have a lifestyle that is not very active (by choice or work environment).

Strengthening exercises will ensure that our core muscles can support our vertebra and maintain the alignment of our spine and body.

If you want to use strength training as a lower back pain exercise, it is a good idea to do so under the supervision of a doctor, physical therapist or personal trainer. Just to avoid causing further injury to your back by performing them improperly.

As you are focusing on strengthening the muscles of the lower back, don't forget to work the area of the abdominal muscles as well. A strong, tight abdomen will offer better support to the lower back.

Stretching

Stretching will improve flexibility and reduce chance of injury, as long as you perform the exercises carefully and gently. Again, supervision will ensure that you do the stretches correctly and safely.

In fact you could try out a very simple back pain exercise that will be familiar to people interested in yoga and is known as 'child's pose'.

The Child's Pose

The child's pose is an effective back pain exercise through stretching and it can also be used for warming up or cooling down.

You need to kneel and keep your chest bent towards the floor and try and rest your head on the floor. This becomes a very relaxed position and gravity will do the rest. This back pain exercise will help in relaxing your shoulders and will give you a better curving of your back.

Posture

What can we learn from toddlers?

Holding the right posture is important in preventing back pain. A slouched position is often a source of back pain. Do you ever sit straight in front of your computer?

We can learn something from young children who are just beginning to walk. Because their head is so heavy they must teach themselves to keep their balance by aligning their bones. Their muscles are not strong enough to maintain a bad posture. The chest is relaxed and the breathing is natural. And they have to sit straight too or they would fall over!

Though you may not want to perform back pain exercises everyday, it is still advisable to perform them as often as possible and you should also try and avoid slouching if you want to remain free from back pain.

The Hidden Cause Of Your Backpain

Did you know a combination of tight and loose or weak muscles in your upper legs, buttocks, hips and shoulders can pull your pelvis and spine out of alignment over the years?

This has weakened and strained your back-muscles over time so they get injured easier ... they put pressure on your spine and pinch nerves and cause all kinds of pain.
