Causes of Lower Back Pain
A large percentage of back injuries occur as a result of over use or improper technique when lifting. Too many hours on the tennis courts, a weekend helping a friend move and physical play with the grandchildren can all lead to discomfort in the back. So what does one do once the damage has been done?
There are some steps that might provide relief: The position most likely to bring relief to a throbbing lower back is lying on the floor with knees bent and feet resting on a chair. This posture takes pressure off the back. This remedy is good when the back has been over stressed, maybe as a result of one of the activities mentioned earlier. A couple days of this routine followed by light exercise (walking) should work wonders. If the problem persists, the injury may be more series and require medical attention.
Heating pads help. Alternating between heat and ice for 20 minute periods should provide the optimum results. Massage can also be helpful in some instances. Aspirin and other over-the-counter products are used by many weekend warriors to fight flare-ups.
Remember, when that "back right lower left side," pain lasts more than a couple days or when it becomes intense and constant, you should contact a physician to help determine the cause and establish a plan for treatment.
