Have that camping fun in your own back yard!!

...

As I stared at that big bag of marshmallows, I thought "Mmmm... I want some roasted marshmallows." So, I asked the kids if they wanted to build a fire pit, since we didn't get to take a camping trip this year. I wanted to show the kids the fun of the camp fire, but in our back yard. Behind our house, there is a large wooded area, so I knew we could gather wood easily. Check out these steps to building a fire pit and enjoy it tonight!!

Step-by-Step Fire Pit Building

~Choose your location. (Pick an area free of debris, with nothing over it such as trees.)

~Dig the entire area about 5 inches deep.

~Place large, flat rocks around the dugg area.

~Find wood, such as twigs and sticks (or buy some)

~Gather some brush such as small twigs, dried leaves, etc. Place some of this in the bottom of your pit area.

~Place wood accordingly in the pit, adding brush every so often.

~I prefer to use paper to light the brush. You got to get the brush burning before the wood will catch on.

~Find some sticks that will hold your hot dogs, and marshmallows.

~Place the hot dogs or marshmallows on the sticks and cook 'em up!

Important!

BE CAREFUL

Fires are dangerous when not controlled and maintained properly. Always watch children around fires! Do not build a fire around a very woody area or in dry areas! Do not use gasoline on a fire in a pit!!

Being careful means remembering that this could happen!
