Everyone has a bad hair day from time to time, right? Instead of fighting it, I say just make the most of it. Indeed, why not celebrate it! Hey, other people may laugh at your bad hair so why not laugh with them!Â
It took a very bad hair day for me to learn to laugh at myself. In fact, you can read about my worst bad hair day ever below. But this lens isn't just about me. Read on. You may even see someone you know!
Remember, bad hair is in the eye of the beholder and the next person you meet on your bad hair day may be having an even worse one of his own! And if you haven't had a bad hair day, congratulations -Â and remember to use sunscreen on that bald head!

The Worst Bad Hair Day Ever - Part 1
(This one wasn't very funny - at least not at the time.)
The story begins one day, quite a few years ago, when I was in need of a haircut. Since we had moved to a new town a year or so before, I had gone to a few different people and places to have my hair cut, but I was still looking for just the right stylist. That day, I decided to try the hair salon of a major department store (which shall remain nameless) hoping I might find the next Vidal Sassoon, or at least the perfect haircut.Yes, I arrived at the salon with high hopes and expectations, signed in on the customer sheet and waited for my name to be called. I didn't have to wait long. A young woman introduced herself (fortunately, I don't remember her name) and led me back to the sink to wet down my hair, and then we moved on to her chair. I've always been a short hair kind of girl, and I described the type of cut I wanted. I sat as she chatted away and the torture, or rather the haircut, began.

The Worst Bad Hair Day Ever
Part 2
The haircut started out just fine and appeared to be going well, at least in the front where I could see in the mirror, a little shorter than I had anticipated, but still okay. I was beginning to be pretty sure that Vidal Sassoon had nothing to worry about when my, uh, stylist got to the back of my head and down to the hairline. I could see her working hard and concentrating, occasionally measuring with her fingers and her eyes, obviously trying to get the hairline even. Did I mention that I have a cowlick or two along the hairline in the back? Did I mention that, like most people, my head isn't just perfectly symmetrical? Obviously I should have mentioned those things to her. I think this gal must have missed class the day asymmetry was discussed at beauty school. The more she tried to even things up, the shorter the hair got. Not only did it get shorter, the cut got higher - and higher. Finally, obviously a bit frustrated, she stopped cutting and trimming. I suppose she showed me the haircut in a mirror, but I don't even remember. I just remember feeling a bit of a breeze on the back of my head.When I got home, my husband and kids were waiting. It didn't take long for them to notice that things weren't exactly what they expected when they checked out the haircut (can you say nanosecond??). Seven and 10-year-old boys aren't exactly subtle, at least mine weren't. They laughed; indeed they roared! My husband even snickered a bit. I think I cried a little. Talk about a bad hair day. That one lasted for weeks!

Needless to say, I didn't go back to that salon again. In fact, it was more than a dozen years before I trusted my hair to another "professional." My hair did grow out, almost to the middle of my back in fact, and eventually I just started cutting it myself. That went on until about a year ago when I decided it was time to try again. I actually found, on the first try, a young lady named Melissa who did a wonderful job cutting my hair, which was a good thing because my son's wedding was in two weeks!I went back to Melissa a couple of times, but then she moved on, apparently to a different town. Then, fortunately for me, I found Libby. Libby has a salon five minutes from my house. Not only does she do a terrific job cutting my hair, she's a wonderful lady and I always look forward to the time I spend in her chair.
It took a lot of years, but Libby was worth the wait. Now, she turns my bad hair days, bad only because I've waited too long between visits, into great hair days. So, Libby, I dedicate this lens to you. You're the happy ending to the story of "My Worst Bad Hair Day Ever."

- My worst bad hair "day" was when I asked the stylist for red highlights. Something subtle. OH. MY. GOSH. I had the brightest red hair EVER. Totally not me. I worked with the public in a sizable establishment. I didn't want to go to work! Needless to say, I never went back to that hairdresser.

- I don't often have a bad hair day as my hair is dead straight and just hangs whatever happens to it, but I certainly know what you mean about hairdressers who try to get your hair even and just keeping cutting until you have a crewcut! Blessed by an angel today

- So sorry about your haircut. I like my hair long, and it takes a year to grow out my hair, so I avoid the salon. I just trim it myself when I can sit on it. Keeping it simple helps me avoid bad hair days.
My daughter has curly hair, and it is lovely, but so hard to take care of. We've finally found a good conditioner, but she still has to work on it a lot more than I do... she has some bad hair days too.
