Robert Rodriguez was born in San Antonio, Texas, on June 20, 1968, into a family of ten kids. One day, his dad brought home a VCR/camera combo, and the rest is history. His large family came in handy when Rodriguez needed actors, and actresses, for the amateur videos he shot and directed. After high school, his goal was to enter the film program at the University of Texas at Austin, but his grades weren't good enough. Quentin Tarantino is a masterful writer, and director, who's iconic style helped usher him into the independent era of filmmaking in the early 1990's. His stylized violence and pop culture references created a new genre of film. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Tony Tarantino and Connie Zastoupil. Later moving to California, Quentin dropped out of high school at sixteen and started taking acting lessons at the James Best Theatre Company. Kevin Smith was born on August 2, 1970, in New Jersey. The same state that would be prominently featured in many of his movies. His siblings included a sister, Virginia, and a brother, Donald. Smith is married to Jennifer Schwalbach Smith and the two have a daughter, Harley Quinn. In 1994, Clerks, premiered at Sundance to a small audience, but word spread and quickly Miramax picked up the film. Due to a great deal of profanity, Clerks received an NC-17 rating.
