Keeping it All Together with Bag Clips

Whether you call them bag clips or chip clips doesn't matter. They may be simple little devices but they can certainly make life easier. Whether you use them to seal up foods to keep them fresh and free from freezer burn or you just want to keep other items organized, contained, or free from dirt, they are a quick and easy tool.

You can find a variety of chip clips on this page and a few other useful tips as well.

Bag Clips: The Little Things

Bag clips are simple items, and affordable too. That doesn't mean that they aren't terribly useful however. Of course not all bag clips are the same, there are little differences that can matter.

Size varies. Clearly some bag clips are designed to seal small bags that may hold anything from some dried spices to small brads in your garage. Others are large enough to seal up your jumbo bag of chips. For many of us, the variety packs are a good choice since we don't have just one bag to be sealed.

Some bag clips offer more flexibility of use. If your only need is to seal a bag of chips, nearly any clip will do. However, if you want to be able to also use your clip to hang notes, photos and other items, you'll probably want one with a hanging hole or magnetic back depending on where you want to attach these items.

Some bag clips are obviously more effective at keeping air and moisture out of bags. For most everyday purposes, the designs that have a spring work well. They are extremely quick and simple to use and if you get the right size they keep chips and similar items fresh or non-food items contained and free of dirt. On the other hand, if air and water tightness is more critical, other styles, such as the Clip-N-Seal items below, may offer a better and more reliable seal.

Using Bag Clips; or Not

Other Options?

If you're using a bag clip to close up bread, cereal, dried fruit, nuts, or other snacks then it's certainly possible to skip the bag clip if you want. If you're thrifty you can save and reuse old bread bag ties or the extra trash bag ties that accumulate. My husband uses rubber bands very effectively when no chip clip is available. My mother on the otherhand is a menace to the environment, and uses more freezer bags and ziplock bags than most communities, as everything she opens gets sealed in them. Of course there's always stapling and such, but that gets pretty messy and almost dangerous.

If your family is reliable though, you might be able to get by without these devices by merely folding the bag up carefully. There's a video below showing how this process works if you want to do it properly. Seriously!

However, if you want to save some time and make life easier, chip clips are the way to go. They're affordable, relatively long lived, and therefore not likely to end up a landfill too terribly soon.
