A beloved Shel Silverstein poem set to music
"The Bagpipe Who Didn't Say No" is a poem by Shel Silverstein from his first published book of children's poetry, Where the Sidewalk Ends. He has an amazing knack for rhyme that's original, eccentric, and witty; he's like Rudyard Kipling crossed with Doctor Seuss!
When I was in college, a friend of mine, Heather, used to sing this poem set to music. I have no idea what the tune is, although it sounds very familiar. With apologies for the rough recording, I'd like to sing it to you!
It's a great song for children. Pass it on!

It's amazing how quickly Shel Silverstein's poetry entered into kids' vernacular along with Miss Lucy Had a Steamboat and older nursery rhymes. When I was little, I didn't realize that the funny kids' song, "Boa Constrictor," was actually from a book published only a few years before!

- Ha, that is a great song for kids! Of course I remember Shel Silverstein from my college days as well, albeit for a much different song! :) I've never heard this one, but being a huge turtle fan, loved it, thanks!
