Flight from Manila to Baguio

Philippines - Flight from Manila to Baguio (v2)

On my trip to the Philippines, the first city that I visited after Manila was Baguio. We left Manila on a hot, humid day ... sat on the runway sweating in the cabin of the YS-11 ... then finally got airborne and headed to Baguio. After ~45 minutes of flying, the mountains came up from the plains, and we landed on a mountain top airstrip. It was *much* cooler in baguio!

Baguio Cathedral

Baguio Cathedral is located on a high spot not far from Session Road and it can be seen from many spots around Baguio City.

To reach the cathedral, you can climb a very long and steep pedestrian staircase from Session Road, or approach by the road goes past the post office.

The exterior of the Cathedral is painted a very nice ivory pink color.

The Cathedral was bombed during the Second World War, but has now been restored.

Baguio (article)

The City of Baguio is a highly urbanized city in northern Luzon in the Philippines. Baguio City was established by Americans in 1900 at the site of an Ibaloi village known as Kafagway. Baguio City was designated by the Philippine Commission as the Summer Capital of the Philippines on June 1, 1903 and incorporated as a city by the Philippine Assembly on September 1, 1909. There is a presidential mansion, as well as supreme court and legislative offices in Baguio. Baguio is the seat of government of the Cordillera Administrative Region. The name of the city is derived from the word bagiw in Ibaloi, the indigenous language of the Benguet Region, meaning 'moss'. The city is at an altitude of approximately 1500 meters (5100 ft) in a moist tropical pine forest conducive to the growth of mossy plants and orchids.

According to the 2000 census, it has a population of 252,386 in 52,302 households.
