My Dog Bailey

Ranked #8,863 in Pets & Animals, #225,497 overall

Meet Bailey, My Fox Terrier and Best Friend.

A cross between a fox terrier and chihuahua.
He is a very protective and loyal dog. A dog with character, makes you laugh at the many things he does.
Loves biscuits and knows when we are having morning tea, will bat those big brown eyes at anyone that will look at him. He has got my mother wrapped around his little paws.
Best little mouse catcher, mouse doesn't stand a chance, very quick. Apparently in England fox terriers are used to reduce rat numbers in the barns.
Has a tendency to roam about the neightbourhood, visiting the children and other dogs.

About Me

Over protective mother, so my daughter tells me.
I love a good joke, love children, love to read romance novels and my husband thinks that all I want to do in life is work, work, work.
Not that I am a career woman, far from it. I work in agriculture in the family business and I think I feel guilty when I take time off because my dad is 70 years young and still works so very hard.

I have studied Child Psychology and worked in kindergartens about ten years ago, I do miss working with children because I find them very refreshing.
I am seriously thinking more about helping disturbed children and would like to maybe, one day, do counselling or foster children. I have been thinking more and more about doing a Psychology degree but keep putting it off because I truly am not sure if I am quite smart enough.
One day I will get the courage, I hope, to take that step.

Pet Shop Visit

How I aquired Bailey, well it was my daughter's 21st birthday and she had decided that moving in with her boyfriend of five years was the best option for her.
Walking past the local pet store on this particular day, she convinced me to go in and check out all the little babies-kittens, puppies, rabbits, fish etc.
Well here was these beautiful little foxies x, five of them, all tan in colour. Took your breath away because they were all so cute.

My daughter had to hold one and eventually talked me into getting one to replace her for when she left.
Now, all she had to do was convince her dad, not so easy.

Nearly forgot, the price was $400. Way too much for a dog. Exactly what her father said, but when he looked at the photo that she took he was sold.

Naming Our Dog

"BAILEY" not really sure how it came about. The event that was happening at the time was My daughter's 21st birthday and I remember that we were getting organised for the party, buying party items and alcohol. Baileys was on my list, my favourite drink.
I'm pretty sure that this is where the name first started to enter our heads.

Nickname "Meerkat"
Stands on hind legs all the time

Favourite Things To Do

He loves to run, really run fast.
We have a large patch of zucchinis growing and he loves to come out and play when we are picking them. If he sees a bird flying or a grasshopper, which we have quite a few big ones flying about, he will chase these through the whole patch (3 acres). He runs so fast he sounds like a galloping horse coming towards you.
Just on sunset, he loves to run circles and play on the back lawn. You try to catch him but he leaps about, dodging past you and still comes back for more. He thinks its fun chasing the frisbee but he won't let you get it off him. It's a big game with him running away and us chasing.
He loves to ride in the car. He sits on my husbands knee and puts his head out the window, a bird flies past and he tries to jump out the window to get it.

Dog Food That He Likes

He will do almost anything for one of these treats.

Gremlin Look Alike

His eyes. When in trouble he puts his ears right back and looks at you with big brown eyes just like the gremlin out of Madagasca

New Addition

whippet

Here is my daughters new addition to her family. Bailey was not quite sure about little "Willow" a whippet.
He got a little rough with her at first but gradually they bonded well.

My, How She's Grown

whippet

Here is the little whippet, not so little anymore. Very crazy dog, very boistrous and gets very jealous when we pat poor little bailey. Willow over towers him now and when they do laps around the backyard, he cuts the small circle and she the large because this little whipett is just way to quick. I have seen her go so fast that she looses her feet from underneath her and does a complete somersault. I am so worried that she will break her leg or even her neck.
A very entertaining dog to have as a pet.

Give Bailey a big hug for me. You should go back and get your degree. Working with ED Kids (Emotionally Distrubed) was the best job I ever had. They have big hearts and give more to me than I could ever give to them.

I used to have a Golden Retriever -- an older one who needed a home. Most loving, sweet, gentle dog I've ever met. Your 'Bailey' looks like he brings you a lot of joy.

We just got a Chihuahua for my mom Expensive, you don't get much dog for your money but you do get a lot of personality!

You are so right. Personality in most little dogs are great. Loyal and very affectionate. Agree, can be very expensive but well worth it.
