Going to Baja 1000 in 2008

Aussie Iron Rider primarily consists of Warren Lovelace and Adrian Lovelace, brothers who form the riding team. Warren is riding a 2005 Honda TRX 450R, Iron Man in the Sportsman ATV class. Adrian is riding a 2001 Honda XR 400R, Iron Man in the Sportsman Motorcycle class.

Behind 2 great men there is 1 great woman to do all the jobs the men don't have time for or just don't want to do. Warren's wife Lisa is team manager completing the tasks neither brother have time to do as they juggle full time work and race preparations to the bikes and there bodies.

Warren and Lisa are currently residing in Seattle, USA. Warren is on a military posting to the USA, accompanied by his family. Although not convenient to Baja Mexico, this allows the logistics of being able to participate in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, for the first time, to be accomplished by Australians without having to do it from the other side of the world.

Adrian resides in Melbourne, Australia. Adrian restores classic motorcycles through the week and races historic motorcycles in his spare time.

Both Warren and Adrian will try anything that might get the adrenalin flowing and is a challenge within their abilities . Lisa is more sedate and ensures that common sense is applied and abilities are realistic.

Baja 1000

What is it

The SCORE international was founded in 1973 by the late Mickey Thompson. It began in the back rooms of "speed king's" shop in Wilmington, California, when Thompson dreamed of bringing the excitement of desert racing to the masses and his newly hired assistant, Sal Fish, saw a major motorsport in the offering. A recreation activity that has developed an international cache, a dedicated and fast-growing television audience and even a home on the world wide web. The official launch of SCORE took place in October 1973 with a short course at the old Riverside International Raceway in California. The race at Riverside, which came under Fish's stewardship within two years, became world famous itself as the SCORE World Championship. It was held before massive crowds until the raceway shut down in 1988.

Score began its long-standing tenure in Baja California, Mexico, in July 1974, with an open desert race in Ensenada called the SCORE Baja International. This popular race, now held in the first weekend in June, has become the SCORE Baja 500 and will be held for the 40th time in 2008. SCORE now produces and sanctions the five-race Desert Series and one stadium-style race, starting the season in January with the 14th Annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge, a unique format two day event held in Laughlin, Nevada. The Series finishes in November with the legendary granddaddy of all desert races- the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. The 2007 anniversary adventure in Mexico began in Tijuana-Ensenada, Baja California and finished in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.

SCORE desert races are televised nationally and internationally via cable networks. The 2004-2007 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 aired in the U.S. as a one hour NBC Sports special on the NBC Television Network as did the 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 500. In the first quarter of 2007, these race shows were distributed throughout the world through ESPN International's networks in Latin America, The Caribbean Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Africa, Middle East and Israel as well as being syndicated world-wide.

What are we doing

The Journey...

The journey began with the movie 'Dust To Glory', attracting Adrian to want to participate in the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. Adrian showed 'Dust To Glory' to Lisa when she returned to Australia from the USA to visit her ill mother. It was Adrian's excitement at the idea of participating and Lisa's return home to the USA that brought the idea to Warren, who predictably jumped on board and immediately commenced his research into the competition. At first the brothers thought of racing a buggy as a team, but the expense and logistics involved in campaigning a buggy in any class of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 soon proved to be prohibitive. Riding bikes was next on the agenda, what type, a Quad or a Motorcycle. The ATV is more stable on the soft terrain although physically more demanding. The Motorcycle is lighter, more agile but comes at the expense of stability. Both Warren and Adrian possess the 'Iron Man' nature and it quickly lured them to the challenge of the 'Iron Rider' solo race, and doing it their own way. Warren opted for the ATV while Adrian opted for the Motorcycle. Follow the journey as they log the challenges and successes in preparing for such a mighty feat.
