I've heard of this dessert, it's from the early 20th century or late 19th century I believe. What's that pink center in the first picture and how does it get that characteristic swirl on the outside?

I love Baked Alaska, but I've always shied away from making it. My mother made it for me as a child, but I'll have to give it a try. Thanks!

Baked alaska is this big nostalgic treat for me. I've only had it once as a kid, and before then had always dreamed of eating it. Then one day I was with a friend's family when they went out for lunch, and the host served up the dessert of my dreams.. baked alaska! Haven't had it since but it is still up there as one of my top desserts. Must try it again so thanks for the recipe :-)

Thanks for the easy recipie. I made it with a brownie crust and a raspberry sorbet middle in place of the ice cream. yummy.

I've actually made baked alaska in the past, a long time ago, and it turned out great! This would be fun to make for Valentine's Day.
