Bake Sale 101

Ranked #7,031 in Food & Cooking, #128,567 overall

Getting Started

Having a bake sale is a fun and easy way to raise money for schools, clubs, churches or any organization or cause you are trying to raise funds for.

Before you start your shopping and baking, decide on the location at which you will be hosting your sale and when you will be having it.
It is best to try and plan it at the place you're raising the money for and when you know there will be a lot of people present.
If you're raising money for your school, hold the sale during lunch or at after school events such as football games, musicals, and fairs.

Now that you have your location and date, start getting the word out! Pass out flyers, postcards and cards so that people know when and where to show up.

What Will I Sell?

Finding Recipes and Shopping

It is best to plan out what you will be selling and then assigning others in the group to their own projects.
This takes pressure off of everyone and you can focus on perfecting one thing.

Having a variety of goods will help you sell more. Make something for the chocolate lovers and something for the fruit lovers. Don't forget to include a few things for customers who may be diabetic or have a sensitivity to gluten.

Make a list of ingredients you need and go to the store for any that you don't already have in your cupboard.
After you've gathered all that, you're ready for some fun!

The FUN Part

Get Your Baking On!

Eye appealing and creative foods will help attract more customers.
The photo of the cupcakes at the top of the page are great to take to sporting events and easy to do.

After baking your cupcakes, follow these decorating steps from http://www.marthastewart.com/.

Ingredients:
* 2 dozen cupcakes
* Swiss Meringue Buttercream
* Orange, yellow or white round candy sprinkles (depending on the ball you're making)
* Licorice laces (again, the ball depends on which color licorice you buy)

Directions:
1) Place orange round candy sprinkles in a small bowl. Using an offset spatula, spread a smooth layer of untinted buttercream over each cupcake. Dip each frosted cupcake in sprinkles, rolling it around to coat completely.
2) Use the licorice laces to make the seams of the ball.

Voila, you're done!
