This last Christmas season, it was anyone's guess as to what toy would come out on top. The biggest surprise was that the latest Elmo doll was not that popular at all. In fact, you could find in pretty much any store anywhere. That is a sharp contrast to the previous Elmo dolls, the absolute flew off shelves. Regardless of price, etc.

Bakugan Toys seem to be this year's breakout hit. They cannot be stopped and their popularity is only growing by leaps and bounds. if you look at the Google trends for bakugan, it is very easy to see that this fad has been on the uptake for the last year and a half. Maybe two years.

So how big is it? according to eBay, bakuguan are the eighth most popular search on eBay. That rates are right up there with digital cameras, the iPod touch, Coach purses, and the PSP. that absolute puts this children's collectible game into a small place of popularity that few things ever reach. It's the first time in a long time. I've seen any children's toy reach that kind of popularity on eBay.

I think the owner question is how long will this fad last. Children are notoriously fickle tend to move toward the latest and greatest thing. That means while this toy might be super popular today, by next Christmas for the Christmas after the fad might be done. After all, bakugan is just the latest in a long line of collectable fads such as Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, Baseball Cards, Webkinz, and the list goes on and on. Speaking of Webkinz, they were the hottest thing on eBay last year and this year they've kind of fallen off the radar. Is that Bakugan's future? We'll see.
